Trattoria Medina — Restaurant in Naples

We have had one of the worst experience we ever had. They gave to us a table just near the door where we had to be with the coat even having other tables available in the restaurant. This was very disappointing, but then they gave us a very expensive menu, I think because it was a new year's eve. That's totally fine, I don't mind that, but the surprise was when they charge us 10% service charge and a supplement for each person as well. The bill came as total of 145 euro for two person for a very standard meal; I said that I didn't want to pay the service charge as the service was not right at all, they were trying to take the plates from the table even having finishing them and also I had to be with the coat as I mentioned before. The answer was that the 10% service charge was written in an small corner of the menu, that of course we didn't see it and nobody explain it, and they could not take it out from the bill. I argued with them and they started talking in Italian swearing on me, I'm Spanish and I can understand everything what they said. At the end a waiter start talking to me like if he wanted to fight... I have not had this experience in a restaurant never in my life, I felt robbed. I would recommend...

By all means avoid this place. My wife got extremely sick eating here while in the restaurant. My daughters had to take her to the hotel where she got sick again. Despite spending over €200 on dinner we were told we needed to pay the entire bill even for her food she never touched because she got sick before eating it. What is even worse, apparently after talking to our hotel manager that called the restaurant (because they recommended it) it was the owner that told us that there was nothing they could do other than pack up my wife’s meal since they couldn’t serve it to anyone else. I asked multiple time to do the right thing which to him was to pack up my wife’s dinner to take home. I’ve experienced much better service at Mc Donald’s. I have shared my feedback with the manager at the Hotel where we are staying and asked him to take our experience into strong consideration before recommending this place to any of their guests. We’ve had great meals and service everywhere we’ve been throughout Naples, Pompei, Sorrento and Capri until this evening. First off the food was excellent and it has an open kitchen that was lovely and clean as we're the toilets. As for the service on our visit was more suited to the McDonalds a few doors down. They took our order for food and drink which was Prosecco. It arrived poured and the waiter left. None of the usual etiquette of is it OK ect. The meal arrived and was duly plonked on the table like a McDonalds take away bag along with a bag of bread!. That Was the last time any of the waiting staff approached the table...untill I went to the toilet on my return the plate had been removed even though it wasn't finished. Swiftly followed by clearing the table faster than a euro price drop. We can only guess that the desert menu was as tasty as the food we had. The bill was quick to come when asked for and we were told the service charge was not included. I went to pay and the casher made a point to look for the tip as the service charge was not included in the price. He seemed some what unamused that my tip reflected the service. A total of ZERO.
