Newly opened this elegant trattoria prepares traditional dishes with a modern creative twist. We had chestnut umbrichelli with porcini, grapes, and turmeric; poached egg with potato purée and hazelnuts and truffles; artichoke with mint, olive pancotto and Jerusalem artichokes; and a perfectly cooked beef filet with mushrooms, truffles, and truffle butter. The service was gracious and efficient. An earlier review criticized the service but we were very pleased. Sylvia, our waiter, was prompt, courteous, and engaging. She anticipated our needs and exceeded expectations. 5 stars don't do this restaurant justice. It's just so good! Located in the center of beautiful Orvieto, Al Mercato offers fine dining that's absolutely accessible and worth every penny. The setting is beautiful and the ambience classy. The staff are kind, caring and very efficient. For example, the chef served the steak to our table, not to let it wait a second too long. The food is freshly made from local ingredients, it is both tasty and pleasing to the eye. They offer a 35 EUR tasting menu including 2 appetizers, a Pasta Primi, a main dish and dessert. Ottimo per ipertesi, forse

È il classico esercizio che approfitta della sua ottima posizione per guadagnare sulle spalle dei turisti servendo cibo di scarsissima qualità e proponendo un servizio ancora più scandente.

Durante una visita alla città di Orvieto ci siamo imbattuti in questo ristorante ed abbiamo deciso di fermarci per il pranzo considerate anche alcune buone recensioni, le quali abbiamo fatto estremamente fatica a spiegarci a fine pasto.

La prima cosa che salta all'occhio e forse anche la più eclatante è l'estrema scortesia, anzi maleducazione ed inadeguatezza del signore che ci ha fatto sedere, preso le ordinazioni e riscosso il conto. Per tutto il tempo ha ignorato le nostre richieste ed ogni qual volta ha dovuto interagire con noi si è rivolto sempre con battute sarcastiche che facevano trapelare tutto il suo menefreghismo verso la soddisfazione del cliente. Sorvoliamo la sfacciataggine con cui ha affrontato una cliente straniera di un tavolo a fianco che si lamentava del proprio piatto, allontanandosi dal tavolo quando la signora ancora cercava di spiegare cosa non andasse. Una situazione davvero spiacevole che in parte è stata rimediata da un collega del su detto signore che invece era estremamente gentile e cortese.

Passando al cibo è stato davvero l'apice della delusione e della mediocrità. Essendo in più persone abbiamo potuto assaggiare diverse portate, un tipo di antipasto, due tipi di primo, un tipo di secondo ed un tipo di contorno. Tralasciando i tempi biblici per le portate, compresi gli affettati dell'antipasto, i quali sono stati l'unica portata salvabile, nessun piatto poteva definirsi soddisfacente. Tutto il resto assolutamente rivedibile, da sottolineare in particolare come tutte le portate fossero molto insipide, al limite del mangiabile come da titolo forse idonee per chi soffre di ipertensione.

La quantità delle porzioni invece era regolare.

Non è il caso di spendere nemmeno una parola sul vino che ci hanno consigliato come vino tipico che non credo possa definirsi tale.

Il conto sarebbe stato accettabile se la qualità del cibo e del servizio fossero stati almeno sufficienti.
