A TOURIST TRAP FOR INSTAGRAMMERS: being a local, I’m astonished about the amount of places in Puglia that are charging ridiculous prices for basic traditional foods. Together with Gallipoli, Otranto is another place which have become the Disneland Paris for all the foreigners which ended up being overcharged for not even gourmet dishes. And the Ortale ristoro has become one of this places. I missed this place from a bunch of years, so i give it another shot to check how cousine evolved. The place always offered basic street food from salento, but in the past prices could have been considered honest for Otranto. However, situation now is ridiculous. 12 euro for a small ration of Lasagna, not even freshly made (warmed up), with basic ingredients. A thing that in any Rosticceria not would exceed 5 euro. Overcharged also for the “instagram” terrace they have inside. A basic puccia , small, of mozzarella and ham for 9 euro, which anywhere else would not exceed 6 euro. Another robbery at free hand. The whole thing was a charade and i give 1 star as 0 is not available. For the FOrEIGNeRs: be smart, skip the mass logic of instagram, and try a truly enjoyable food experience in salento out of the mass costal towns; instead of being preyed by this...
Read moreAmazing atmosphere with a stunning roof top terrace covered in amazing vines and flowers with a great review. We didnt get food and wished we got wine even though we were there before noon. We ordered two very expensive orange juice at 6 euros each which sadly had no flavour! the worst thing though was the service. We were told to order in a small window upstairs where one person was, possibly the slowest bartender in the entire world, I have watch paint dry faster. After about waiting 7 minutes another guy came in and started to make our orange juice but then left while the tortoise of a bartender then started to serve the guy that came after me!, in all I waited about 13 mins to be served two small OJ (mostly ice) and then was told I had to bring the glasses back to the bar?! So you pay 6 euros each for zero service and little taste on OJ, we saw that the wine was the same price, big mistake. I have had amazing fresh OJ in Spain for half this price as well as Northern Italy. Shame as it was a stunning place and the food etc looked...
Read moreComplete gem on a quiet part of central Otranto! We wandered in this utterly adorable shop because it looked so inviting & we were captivated by the wines, breads, cheeses that you choose & also the fun, old time music that plays. Somehow we wandered & found their back garden, which is exquisite! It's tiered & has blonde, rustic furniture, white lights, cool antiques & lots of greenery. I think we could have stayed out there for hours were it not for the 6 pm mandatory closing time (Covid regulations). I didn't find their service very warm, both times we went, which gives you cause for pause, but I'd still go again given the opportunity because of the overall quality of the cafe & its inexplicable, wonderful ambiance. It is dumbfouding that they're so low on the Trip Advisor ratings, they ought to be in the top 10 or 20...
