If you eat anywhere in Otranto, eat here.
I'm just going to preface by saying my partner and I are total foodies, and not your typical tourists who insist on dining at the most basic venues with the piazza or water views etc.
Patronale, located in a quiet laneway off the main winding cobbled streets of Otranto old town was that good that we returned both nights we were there and so far it has been the best of our 4 week trip.
The service was warm and inviting - our waiter in particular Andrea was attentive and treated us like friends. If you like seafood, Italian food and pasta - all your dreams are here.
Both nights, we had 4 different seafood pasta dishes and honestly it was tricky to find the absolute winner. Although the gambaro (prawn) fettuccine was perhaps the best if we had to pick one!
If we could find a way to pocket this restaurant and bring it home to Melbourne with us we absolutely would.
Did I mention the dessert, tiramisu and Nutella cheesecake...
Read moreBeen recently to Florence, Rome, Leece, Gallipoli, Santa Maria di Leuca on holiday from Canada. Lots of really great food- not one bad meal but some better than others. The Patronale Restaurant in Otranto gave us the best food for certain and at least equal service as compared to the best of all the other experiences in the above locations. Andre was our main server. He had a wonderful disposition as a person and was very attentive, and put up with our attenpts to speak in Italian. We loved the ambience of the location even though not on the water. It was a perfect dinner experience for the 4 of us. We had clam linguini ( best meal), Seafood pasta, and Calmari and prawns followed by pomagranit cheesecake and Tiramisu. The wine was Salento Negroamero (very good). Price was good. 4 meals, 3 desserts, 2 liters sparkliing water, 2 appetizers ( fried anchovy and mussels), one double esspresso....
Read moreVery nice seafood restaurant. It is off the main street, quiet and pleasant. Most of the restaurant was reserved for a party the night we dined, and despite that our service was excellent. The food was very good. We shared 4 courses. Grilled octopus on sweet roasted onions was done nicely. Pasta with pumpkin cream and mussels was flavorful but maybe a bit bland. Salmon with beet puree had a terrific beat flavor but the salmon was a bit bland, with not enough of the puree for all the salmon. Desert was very good. The server's wine choice was unique to the area, and pretty good but not as good as some nearby restaurants. All in all, highly...
