There are two wine bars in Palermo I will never forget; one is Dal Barone and the other is Enoteca Brillo. Palermo is a slightly crazy place, always busy, bustling markets, scooters zipping through the traffic, and an overall sense of joyful chaos. Step through the doors of Enoteca Brillo and leave all of that behind. It’s almost as if time stops as you take a seat and enjoy the fabulous hospitality of Daniela and Gabriele. Not only that there is an amazing choice of fantastic wines both from Sicily and the rest of Italy, but thanks to Coravin you can also sample even the best wines by the glass. Daniela is equally charming and knowledgeable about the wines and makes you feel welcome as if it was her own home. Gabriele is preparing small dishes such as Bruschette, Faccacie and delicacies such as carpaccio, caprese and taglieri with a calm and focussed dedication, using only the best ingredients. There is nothing here that doesn’t make you just want to come back again, and again, and again. Even if you visit Palermo for just a very short period, make sure to put this on your list of...
Read moreThis is wonderful place, just outside the tourist area of Palermo. We went there both nights of or short stay in town. The quality of the wine, food and service is outstanding and the decor and atmosphere are very sophisticated. The charming hostess, Danielle, is very knowledgeable regarding the wines and cheeses on offer, happily explaining the characteristics of our selections the cheese platter is very generous. I want point out that the wines are stored using argon gas to prevent oxidation, and Daniela checks the aroma of the cork before pouring the wines; that says it all regarding respect Brillo has for its customers and its products. Inexplicably, the prices are comparable to lower-quality wine/cheese/food on offer at the “tourist “ eateries in the city centre. I give Brillo my highest...
Read moreI was looking for a local wine bar and this was perfecto!!! Grazie mille to Daniele and Gabriele who provided friendly service and conversation. The ambiance is sweet and intimate, I enjoyed the music as well. I did a wine tasting of 4 wines. Sparkling, Rosé, white and red for €25. They’re all so yummy and sourced locally from Mt Etna grapes. The snacks provided were not only delicious but plenty for one person. The meats and cheeses were unique and flavorful. My fav was the mortadella which had orange peel and almonds- unlike the traditional one. All freshly sliced. I ended up buying two bottles and some slices to go which they helped vacuum seal...
