We were searching for somewhere to eat on our first night in Pompei, having arrived after an unfortunately lengthy trip from Naples. We checked in to our accommodation and then went for a look around, hoping to find somewhere with a reasonable pasta selection - something we had been in short supply of.
This place ended up being our choice, and it was a good one! They had a special offer menu of €18 for two courses, with a choice between a carbonara and another pasta dish which escapes my memory for the first course, and then either a chicken cutlet (which I THINK is a breaded chicken fillet, like an escalopé or a schnitzel) or roast pork belly. That sounded nice and drew us in, but we ended up not taking that in as the rest of the menu looked too appetising!
My wife had the ravioli, which was stuffed with ricotta, mozzarella and basil in a simple cherry tomato sauce. I had the lb cutlets with creamed potato. Both were delicious - I found the lamb especially nice. In common with most Italian cooking, the dishes are "straightforward" without hundreds of ingredients thrown at them to make them sound fancy, but are just cooked well, presented nicely, and are all the more delicious for it!
The prices were very reasonable, with most dishes for the first and second courses being around €12 to €15, with reasonably priced drinks as well. Our bill came to just less than €40, including drinks.
If I had to find a criticism, and this may well just be personal preference and is certainly picking at very minor details, I would have liked a tiny bit of seasoning on the lamb - a little sprinkle of salt is all - but the absence of it certainly didn't stop my enjoying every mouthful! I can assure you it didn't last long at all before I was considering a second portion!
Overall, I'd absolutely recommend a visit to anyone staying in Pompei if they are looking for a well-priced place for...
Read moreAbsolutely disgraceful. I cannot believe all the reviews. We should have known from the beginning. The male servers bless tried their best despite the language barriers and made sure we were satisfied. There were red flags from the beginning. We were served one bread basket despite ordering two, we had to request olive oil and salt separately and to be frank the salt shaker was blocked. The pasta arrived bland and I had to season with soo much salt and pepper for some flavour. There was a very long wait for the fried seafood, which turned out to be 4 overcooked, salty, subpar squid rings and two small prawns. The salad arrived and it was just lettuce, hardly a salad if you ask me and sad to say the highlight of the food. The bread was very cold and the seafood platter was in parts cold, hot and room temperature. Despite requesting no nuts on the ravioli, it came covered in nuts and tasted like it came a can. The food was intolerable and to be honest the attitude of the female staff was appalling, absolutely rude and just downright ugly attitude both the waiter and the woman behind the counter, no sense of professionalism and ruined my mood. The food was abysmal. The tiramisu was frozen and wasn’t actually tiramisu. There was a heavy layer of cocoa powder but this could not cover the frozen ‘tiramisu’. The dessert was not fresh and served with this weird syrup and dirty forks. I cannot recommend this to anyone. Nor would I go again....
Read moreIn my view the restaurant is quite pricy given the fact that they actually seem like a cheaper restaurant. In my view the portions are really small and we paid 25€ per person not feeling full, which is normally not the case. Plus there were some thing they didn’t told us about and we didn’t really need. We have ordered a fish with side of mixed veggies salad and then they brought us a fish with veggie salad on the side of a plate plus another veggie salad in another plate, which just was so redundant as it was already there and we ordered the same meal twice so we ended up with 4 side salads. 🤦♀️ which they of course charged us for and we didn’t really need so much of it. Additionally the same thing happened with drinks and we ended up taking water with us because it just didn’t make sense for us to have so many water bottles and they made us to pay for it. Maybe they just didn’t understand us, anyway, the people there were nice, but it seemed like they were only bringing us additional redundant food/drinks. The food was okay, but as we didn’t really feel full amend paid enough, we left...
