Ristorante Pizzeria IMatti — Restaurant in Pompei

What a horrible experience!!! The restaurant was recommended by our host where we were staying (B&b Pompei Olympus) so we decided to dine there, I do not like general to review places or my dinner but this experience was really the worst during our 19 days stay around Italy so that’s why I decided to share.. we had reservation on the terrace which was not busy at all and i guess staff was not happy to make extra steps for the “service “ we had to call them to take our order, after replacing the order starter arrived on time but quality of food was not what we were expecting, bruschetta vas very poor 2cherry tomatoes on slice of bread, luck of tomatoes in Italy and especially for the bruschetta I think it’s a shame! However after finishing starter and waited we had to go and call the waiter (who was busy with his phone for half an hour and watching us with not even single damn) to let him know that we were waiting for main course, after about 35minutes main course was served but wrong order for my husband, we asked nicely that my husband ordered different dish (grilled mix sea food) server returned dish and told us that correct dish would be served, after I finished my meal and about additional 20-25 minutes later my husband’s meal was served but again wrong instead of grill seafood, pasta with seafood, we went to the server who took our order to explain which dish we ordered and instead of trying to fix things and feel sorry that we waisted so much time waiting they started to argue with me to blame us that we replaced wrong order. We wanted to leave the place but since they told us that food was already preparing we stayed and waited few more minutes and finally right order was served, but not worth to wait that much at all sea food was unseasoned and prawns was not clean as it should, grilled vegetables was very dry and not seasoned at all. What a waste of time and money!! I can understand that sometimes mistakes can happen but the way how staff will approach and try to correct it that makes different, unfortunately Service team is very arrogant and impolite they even didn’t apologize for the inconvenience which was from them side. I am sure they don’t even care about this or any other reviews but i just wanted to share with other future guests to that place. Most reviews say that this place has great pizza, it looked amazing but we didn't have that. We ate other menu items instead and was not disappointed, 4 stars because service was lacking.

We had marinated anchovies with green peppercorn and an octopus, green bean, potato and Pesto salad for appetisers which were both very good. For mains my partner had the 'broken candle' pasta with courgette, almonds and taralle and was amazing. I had the chicken escalope, which I assumed would be breaded but wasn't, in a lemon butter sauce and a side of veg. Even though I was initially put off by the paleness of the chicken escalope it was quite tasty, especially with the grilled veg side.

The let down of the evening was inattentive and some what confused service. We got our starters before we got our wine and had to remind our waiter to bring it in the end. A different waiter cleared away my partners plate while I was still eating which is a bit of a pet hate of mine (being from the service industry myself) and we had to wait ages for a waiters attention to get the bill and the change.

All in all, it is a recommend as the back garden alone is worth it. The restaurant is in a bit of a dead zone between the 2 entrances of the ruins so can be...

I was torn between giving 3 or 4 stars but I'll give it 3 for the following reasons: We were greeted by a fairly rude girl in the entrance (everyone else was really kind) who pretty much hushed us in order to answer a call. ✅We seated ourselves (which is ok with us). We ordered really fast in a wonderfully decorated and romantically lit garden. The appetizers arrived quickly as well as the wine which was opened in front of us. The appetizers were delicious.

❗However... -here comes the 3 star part- ... we were served our pizzas almost an hour (45 minutes the least!) later. We saw tables sitting next to us after we've eaten our appetizers and they got served sooner. I suppose that the order got lost? I think so, because everything else seemed to come out of the kitchen really quickly. Anyway, halfway through the wait we told the waiter that the pizza was late and we waited another 20'. We were about to leave when our pizzas arrived. Medium quality to my liking. Not bad at all though.

We paid 60€ and left. I think it could have easily been a 5 star experience. Very kind staff & very nice...
