Odeon or the Small Theater of Pompeii stands near the Bolshoi Theater. It was built in 80-75 years BC. In ancient times, the Odeon or the small theater was covered with a four-tiled roof. The theater follows the plan of other theaters built in the Roman Empire. At a time when the Bolshoi Theater was mainly used to stage drama, the Odeon was used to perform musical concerts. The purpose of the roof was probably to add to the acoustic effect. In the Odeon were two high seats for important guests or priests for conducting pagan cult rituals. These platforms are completely cut off from common places. They also had separate stairs to enter. The seats were made of brickwork with tuff plates. The Small Theater housed about 1500 spectators. The lower four rows were destined for the city's elite and separated from the upper 17 rows by a high parapet. From the parapet, only its left side remained (if viewed from the stage). The Small Theater was connected to the Bolshoi Theater by a...

Useless to give Maps viewers option to choose rating. How can anyone rate this magnificent, insanely magic and unique site on our planet lower than 5 stars? That is completely impossible, to be fair. The Teatro Piccolo is a small, covered theater in Pompeii that was built in the 1st century BC. It could seat about 1,500 people and was used for performances of music, poetry, and mime. The theater is well-preserved and still has its original marble seats and stage. It's a great place to visit if you want to experience what it was like to attend a performance in ancient immortal and...

The Teatro Piccolo, or Odeon, is the smaller but classier sibling of the Great Theatre. Built mainly for music and poetry performances – no rowdy crowds or snack stands here – just quiet listeners pretending to be cultured. With its roof and superb acoustics, even a whispered argument could sound like an epic Greek tragedy. Perfect for those who prefer lyres over lions.

It is truly a shame that you can no longer enter the theatre except from taking a photo of it from one of the entrances. Still amazed by how they were able to build these structures. Definitely not anything extravagant, but practical and with small ornamental details.
