Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype

I was really looking forward to dining at Gandhi Restaurant in Rome, given all the positive reviews, but I have to say, it was quite a letdown. Having lived in India, I know what authentic Indian food should taste like, and unfortunately, this place just doesn’t measure up.

Many people assume that because they’re in Europe and miss the flavors of home, any Indian food will satisfy their cravings. But trust me, this isn’t the case here. The quality of the food at Gandhi is far below what you’d expect if you’ve had authentic Indian cuisine. The portions are small, the prices are steep, and the flavors just aren’t there.

What disappointed me the most was the chicken biryani. It was bland and lacked the rich spices that make biryani so special. It’s frustrating when a dish as iconic as biryani is mishandled like this. Coming to Roti, omg never seen giving such a small roti.

Honestly, unless you’re desperate for Indian food, I would advise against going here. Save your money and time because when we walk/travel from long distance to this kind of restaurant with so much hope it’s not worth – there are much better dining options in Rome. Service and atmosphere both are good. Take a look at the pictures, and you’ll see what I mean that quality is way to less.! Please don’t...

Authentic Indian Flavors & Exceptional Service – A Must-Visit in Rome!

We recently visited Indian Restaurant Gandhi in Rome as a group, all craving some authentic Indian food – and I must say, the experience surpassed all our expectations!

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Despite being a large group, they were attentive to every table, ensuring that each dish was served perfectly and on time. The service was excellent, and the owner himself is one of the most humble and gracious hosts I’ve encountered in a long time.

The food? Absolutely amazing. Every dish was full of authentic flavor and clearly prepared with a lot of care. The Biryani and South Indian specialties were standout highlights. Each bite transported us straight back home.

What truly surprised us was their flexibility. Since we were staying in the same spot for dinner, we requested some pasta (not typically something you'd expect from an Indian restaurant) – and it turned out to be fantastic! A perfect fusion that shows the chef's versatility and passion for good food.

Whether you're looking for traditional Indian cuisine or a unique twist to your meal, Gandhi is a place I highly recommend. The combination of delicious food, outstanding service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere makes this a restaurant...

Came as part of Europe group tour lunch and we had big surprise- we were served idly, dosa(ootappam), sambar(more waterish), chutney mixed with dahi and sautéed also, with rice and salad, for lunch. I have never eaten idly & dosa for lunch. Either the organizer or the restaurant manager mixed it up. Expecting to get South Indian dish made properly like idly and Sambar in Rome and that too from North Indian style restaurant is unrealistic I would say. Would have been much better had they stuck to their routine - dal, mix veg, roti, rajma, rice and dahi. The inside ambience and seating tables are good and decoration is decent. Washroom facilities available. Probably the regular food being provided by them would be good. Raised to 3* after having dinner with regular North Indian...

Excellent Indian restaurant near Ostiense train station and Eataly. The spice level has been adjusted to Italian tastes, so you won't find any spicy heat unless you ask specifically for it (Edit: actually my Sicilian friend found the vindaloo too hot for him, so I ate it). Excellent sharable dishes, attentive service (they speak English too) and we got in without a booking at 8pm on a Thursday evening, and another date when we arrived without a booking on a Sunday after spending the day at the beach and still grubby - they were so kind to us! I've also ordered it twice from Deliveroo, and it's great. However, the only advice I have for the restaurant is to invest in liquid-proof containers. Wrapping the boxes in plastic wrap is really sticky oily mess upon arrival.
