I can't review the food here unfortunately because this business doesn't operate properly.
My boyfriend and I made a trip here all the way from our neighbourhood of San Giovanni (so a 25 minute commute), and we arrived at 8:15am. The operating hours on google said 8am. We were surprised to see that the establishment was closed and that the hours on the door stated they open at 9am. I understand this though...google isn't always the most accurate. I digress on this...
We waited for 45 minutes at a caffè around the corner, and we walked back over to see that at 9:05am they were still closed. We decided to call the business phone to see if we could get an answer. Turns out we woke up the owner (since she texted me after to tell me how dare I wake her). Again...I digress at this point. I think that type of ignorant and self serving response really just speaks for itself.
She told us that she is only open on weekends (as if we are supposed to know this with the complete LACK of Signage on the door). I asked her why she wouldn't notify people...at the very least she could save people a lot of frustration....especially when they come all that way and wait around for an hour. There was also another frustrated couple of people sitting in front waiting. She had no real response and then starting speaking about the pandemic. I am not a cold hearted person....I understand this situation we are all in, however...PUT UP A SIGN. You literally have a sign telling people to wear a mask...is it that hard to have your modified hours posted as well?
There are people who value their own time. I'm sorry that I woke you up, however you wasted 1.5 hours of my time by your lack of basic business skills.
Unfortunately we will not be returning at any point to try this place out.
I sympathize with the owner during a time like this, but it's all more the reason to be better toward your community during a time when businesses are struggling. We are out here trying to support you and you are ignorantly leaving us on...
Read moreSometimes, we want a meal that tastes just like homemade, but without actually having to make a homemade meal. For these moments, there’s Homebaked, a cozy restaurant representing true American cuisine in Rome. Churning out delicious meals from secret family recipes, Homebaked is nothing short of the tastes and smells you expect from your Grandma’s kitchen.
The restaurant itself is tiny, but it’s this quality that gives it a truly homey feel. Like sipping coffee with friends in your kitchen, or enjoying a fresh lunch complete with traditional American fare, Homebaked allows you to relax in a friendly, comfortable environment. With sunny yellow walls, and white bistro-style furniture, the restaurant décor is accented with little nods to the American culture. A U.S. postal box stands by the front entrance, a unique touch to tie together the culinary inspiration with the theme of the restaurant.
I had the pleasure of dining at Homebaked in Rome on my own during the breakfast hour. I couldn’t decide between French toast and pancakes, so I opted to get both. Breakfast is the most important meal, right? The French toast was perfectly browned, a spongy texture that melted in my mouth. A dusting of powdered sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup added just the right touch of sweetness. The pancake platter came with scrambled eggs, cooked to perfection, and crispy, salted bacon. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and delicious when paired with a pad of butter and some more syrup. I washed it all down with a delicious Italian coffee. Definitely one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Rome.
Jesse was incredibly welcoming and friendly whether you’re a visitor, an ex-pat, or just someone who loves American cuisine, you absolutely must try the spectacular breakfasts...
Read moreAbove and beyond is all I can say. Expectations exceeded and I’m picky. I’ve been living in Italy and haven’t eaten or seen a simple breakfast platter like this. This is even more abundance more then the USA. I told the waitress that I wanted to change my drink that I made myself by doing the half and half lemon juice and homemade ice tea. She even asked like what was wrong and I said it needed sugar. She then explained why and she didn’t have to and switched it for me. That’s how you freaken do it people. I will visit every time I’m in Rome and I’ll tell all my military peeps who’s missing breakfast that this is the spot. They didn’t pay me for this comment either. I don’t even care what the bill is…cause I know it was worth it! They have wall chargers for everybody. Show me another restaurant like this….I’ll wait! I’m Dave, Dave from NYC, I think I know a little bit...
