My family of three had lunch at Sughero two days ago. My wife thought she had reserved one of the outdoor tables, but when we arrived, the owner, Laviniya (sp?), who would be our server, told us that we had reserved a table inside. Although we were prepared to head indoors, Laviniya graciously offered to move one of the indoor tables outside for us. Because it was a beautiful day and we were concerned about COVID, we appreciated the gesture.
We ordered the Pink shrimp salad with artichokes and pomegranate, the Golden fried anchovies with fennel salad and orange fillets, the Calamarata with gricia of squid and peas, the Spaghettone with garlic, chilli oil and red prawns, the Soybean seared tuna with smoked aubergine and confit cherry tomatoes, and the house-baked bread. In addition, before our appetizers, Laviniya served us an amuse-bouche of polenta, sardine (possibly anchovies) and tomato. And though we were quite full after our meal and decided to skip dessert, Laviniya served us each a complementary small dark chocolate.
The three of us agreed that everything was delicious. And Laviniya, who speaks excellent English, was a gracious, engaging and down-to earth host who takes pride in what clearly is not just her business but her joy. Since we will be in Rome for an extended stay, we will definitely...
Read moreThis was the best restaurant we visited in Italy, no doubt whatsoever. It's hard to capture the excellence in every part of the experience. First, the service is very intimate, friendly, professional, and timely. We felt comfortable there, but were also benefited from the expertise of the server.
The food, oh the food. We did the chef's special and were not disappointed! It was four courses of perfection. The portion size as a whole was perfect too. Before the first course, we were given homemade bread of various sorts. After dessert, we were given truffle chocolates too.
We only tried one wine, which was upon recommendation of the server. It was probably one of the best whites I've had, and paired wonderfully with the food. Another win.
The food is prepared by one person in the back for your table. This was of course a very appreciated aspect of the restaurant for us. (There was only seating for about 25 people total.) However, one table had difficulty because they wanted to do the chef's menu and make a substitute for only one member of their party, which was not possible.
Strongly strongly recommended. Take the 45 min walk from downtown even, it's a beautiful walk and Sughero is in a beautiful...
Read moreWe went with the chef menu for €35 for 4 courses. Good quality food with good service. Only one server was around but he was quick and efficient. The bread basket had assortment of different types of bread, didn't manage to snap a picture but trust me you wont stop eating it. Sughero is a restaurant that is worth visiting. Really loved that we had quality and delicious food with 2 bottles of wine for about €50 p.person. The show stoper for me was the sweet ending, the chocolate soup, it...
