Great Food, Poor Experience: A Review of Oolong Rome I recently dined at [Restaurant Name], eager to indulge in some authentic Chinese cuisine. While the flavors of the dishes were undoubtedly exceptional, the overall dining experience left much to be desired due to significant shortcomings in the restaurant's setup, organization, and service. Upon arrival, my party requested a table inside for a more intimate dining experience. However, we were disappointed to find that the interior of the restaurant consisted of only a few tables arranged along a hallway leading to the exterior. This lack of privacy and constant traffic from both guests and staff detracted from the ambiance we were hoping for. The owner/manager, visibly stressed, attempted to accommodate us by offering an alternative table outside. Unfortunately, this table was too small for our group of six, and despite our requests, there was no option to adjust or enlarge it. Additionally, the covered tent outside provided insufficient insulation from the cold weather, forcing us to dine with our coats on. To compound the issue, the gas heaters standing next to our table did not function, apparently due to a lack of gas, despite our repeated requests to turn them on. This only added to the discomfort of dining in the chilly outdoor environment. Furthermore, the restaurant was severely understaffed for the number of guests. With only two waiters and the overwhelmed owner/manager attending to approximately 30 patrons, the service was slow and disjointed. Courses were not brought out simultaneously, leading to long delays between dishes. Specific requests, such as replenishing Pecking duck tortillas, were met with significant waiting times and frustration. It was evident that the waitstaff were exhausted and struggling to keep up with the demands of the restaurant. Tasks were not efficiently assigned, and there was a general sense of disorganization throughout the evening. In conclusion, while the food at Oolong was undeniably delicious, the overall dining experience was marred by inadequate setup and subpar service. I would hesitate to return or recommend this restaurant to others until significant improvements are made in...
Read moreI have to start my review by please asking this restaurant to oil / grease their front door hinges. We stayed at an apartment near Oolong and heard their door squeak/shrill loudly and constantly every evening. As we were staying nearby, we thought Oolong seemed nice and the menu appetizing. We dined on a weeknight and on their patio, which they've done a good job making their enclosed patio feel and look very cozy / upscale. The service was mostly good - we had various waitstaff come to our table, however it seemed that only the manager (I'm assuming, perhaps she is owner?) spoke enough English to understand when we placed our order. From what I observed, the rest of the staff seemed to be fluent in Italian, I didn't notice other diners having difficulty ordering. I believe the manager may have misunderstood when we placed our order, as we meant to order the pork dumplings, a miso soup, the general zhongtang chicken, and the stir cooked pork belly. I received the 4 flavored dumplings (that I didn't mean to order), but no entree, and had to place my entree separately. So my husband and I received our foods at different times. We both agreed that the dumplings were good. He felt the miso soup was bland and was disappointed with his chicken. 18 euros for what was essentially only a piece of chicken, that was just okay... The stir cooked pork belly I eventually received was cooked well and overall had good flavor, but was way too salty for me. We also ordered a bottle of wine, which we enjoyed. Overall, we were sadly disappointed by the food at Oolong as most of the dishes fell flat. Our meal was also roughly 100 euros, which didn't help that we paid that much to feel...
Read moreOur bill was €183 for four of us. Two being children. We only drank three beers in total. There was one waitress serving and everything took some time. Not being local, we were keen to indulge in the spirit and learn details of the dishes - show some enthusiasm. We love world cuisine! Unfortunately the waitress was somewhat short and lacked the patience to fully indulge in our curiosities. To the point where it felt rude. Having ordered two dishes of the duck (amongst many other dishes) which at €30 each and minimum two people we were serious about making it a meal to remember. We would have appreciated a little more consideration in her explanation, but more so some professionalism and value for us as customers! If I dared query anything, she would quip back, shake her head disapprovingly and walk away. She simply wasn’t interested in indulging. Bearing in mind it was New Year’s day, she lacked any form of festive spirit. It’s not every day one spends that quantity of cash on a meal! Portions were small and service was , slow (no staff). Sadly we left feeling underwhelmed and hungry. Positives: tasty starters, cosy atmosphere. In a nutshell, over priced, tiny portions and under staffed. Not worth the money. Should have gone with the kids suggestion and...
