Amedeo is a modern Italian style restaurant offering traditional Roman cuisine, with a twist on the classic recipes. Located in Rome, the restaurant prides itself on finding creative ways to use seasonal, fresh ingredients and pairing them with high-quality regional wines. The restaurant design is casual, intimate, and inviting, but in a classy, elegant way. With terracotta archways and light wood floors, the color palate sways neutral, with earth tones highlighted by bright white walls and industrial-style lighting. An intriguing mix of classic refinement mixed with modern touches, and the service is impeccable. They treat you like a part of the family, and everything you need is taken care of promptly.
I opted to start my meal with a plate of mussels, steamed to perfection. Not fishy, but light and tender, the right amount of chewiness. No extra seasoning necessary, these mussels were perfect on their own. That’s the thing about Amedeo: they know that the right ingredients, fresh and seasonal, shine. And it shows in their food.
I also chose seafood carbonara, with mussels, razor clams and prawns. Again, the flavors of the dish really shined through on their own. The seafood was fresh, delicate, and the sauce was creamy and just heavy enough.
I moved from the sea to the land for my main course, and decided to try the lamb chops. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten such perfectly cooked, deliciously juicy, and tender lamb. Instantly won as my favorite dish of the afternoon.
Well, that was before I tasted the chocolate lava cake I ordered for dessert, which was served with vanilla ice crema and warm berry compote. Wow. The rich melty chocolate inside the moist cake was decadent, and I scooped some up with the ice cream and berries. The flavor trio was to die for.
From service to style to sensational meals, Amedeo is a...
Read moreMy wife and I came here based on the reviews. We shared the lasagna and salted potatoes. The lasagna was only okay (we preferred our Costco store bought lasagna instead, but we really haven't found an amazing Italian dish yet either). The salted potatoes were perfect. We had an Aperol Spritz, which tasted strong, but I don't have anything to compare it to since this was our first cocktail here. My wife had a glass of Pinot Grigio, which was only okay.
We waited to be seated about 15 minutes (we did not have a reservation) and no complaints other than we said we would be open to inside or outside but the owner asked which we prefer and we said outside, however, there was a table free inside and we just wanted to be seated so we told him we would be open to inside if that means we can be seated now, which we did.
This was the most USA customer service we experienced. It was very fast-paced, all the tables were occupied, and the owner was going in many different directions. I did overhear him talk to an employee who must have been going slower than expected, and it sounded like he spoke in Italian, "faster faster or you're fired!" It was busy, and I get it, but it painted a picture of a bad working environment.
We probably wouldn't come here again and look for a more authentic feeling Italian restaurant since this felt like too much like the USA rushed feeling and...
Read moreAfter a late arrival in Rome and a bit of exploring, we were looking for a nearby spot to grab a comforting meal—and Ristorante Amedeo came recommended by our hotel. Conveniently located and welcoming, it turned out to be a pleasant start to our culinary adventures in the city.
Appetizer Delight
We began with the Crostini with stracciatella, Cetara anchovy sauce and caramelized red onion —crostini topped with creamy stracciatella, Cetara anchovy sauce, and caramelized red onions. This appetizer was absolutely delicious, offering a perfect blend of sweet, salty, and savory flavors that set a great tone for the evening.
Pasta Courses
For our mains, my husband ordered the Amatriciana with Gragnano PGI Half Rigatoni, which was rich, well-seasoned, and full of depth—definitely a standout dish. I chose the Carbonara with Gragnano IGP spaghetti, “Galline Felici” eggs and zero km bacon. After trying my husbands dish I found his to be more to my liking as it had more flavor.
Final Thoughts
Despite my dish falling slightly short, we still had a great meal overall. The service was kind, the ambiance was relaxed, and the wine selection complemented our meal wonderfully. Ristorante Amedeo proved to be a convenient and satisfying option for our first...
