I visited as a solo diner, but I still received lots of attention from the staff and was seated at a table, not the bar, which was nice.
It being a Friday evening, I had expected more of a crowd, but it was quite calm (I went from 20.30 to about 22.00), not sure if that is normal for this restaurant or not.
Two very attentive and friendly waiters got me seated and took my orders for the Mango Crush mocktail, a tuna tartare and the linguine with amberjack (bottarga)
The mocktail was quite good, though I noted more of a ginger flavor than a mango flavor. When I enquired about it, I was assured it was the mango mocktail alright, so it might just be that the spice used in it had some strong ginger notes. It was very tasty nonetheless! 9/10
The tuna tartare was heavenly and I recommend it to everyone who visits. The umami of the tuna was complemented perfectly with the sweet and sour notes of the strawberry and balsamico. The basil gave the whole a touch of freshness. And the portion size was really good for the low price! Overall a wonderful dish, 10/10
My main course, the primi linguine with amberjack, was a bit disappointing. I had never tried amberjack before, and the fish by itself was lovely. I could taste the notes of citrus zest. However the dish had a fine dusting of dried mullet roe, which offset the taste of the pasta and the fish and had quite an overpowering smell. To me, it was too strong of an additive to the meal to complement it right. The linguine themselves were good, albeit a bit hard? Can't say if that was meant to be the case as it was another first time having noodles of that thickness, so that might be on me. My only reference was ramen and it's definitely chewier and harder than ramen. The portion of pasta was good, though some more fish would've been nice too. 6/10
The drink I ordered arrived nice and fast, and I only had to wait about a quarter of an hour for my first dish, the tuna tartare, to come out from the kitchen. When it was time for the pasta, however, the wrong dish was initially brought out, spaghetti with clam. I immediately let them know it was not what they ordered, which the waiter contested. (I know I'd never voluntarily order clam, though xD).
After clarifying my order again, they brought the spaghetti back to the kitchen to put my new order through. Because of the mishap it eventually took until 21.30 ish for the pasta to get back to me. The waiters during this time kept assuring me it was on its way and being made, so I knew I wasn't being forgotten, which was nice.
The ambiance in the restaurant was good. Like I mentioned it was calm and quiet regarding the crowd, and there was English music playing. The decor in the restaurant is nice as well and it was clean and well-kept. While I sat, a group of locals came in to dine as well, which confirms what other reviews say about this not just being a tourist trap!
My total came down to just under 40 euros, but with a tip I brought it up to 45, so a very reasonable price for these meals!
Overall a lovely experience, and I really...
Read moreCame here twice during our week in Rome. Once for dinner, and again for a late lunch snack when a friend came to visit us. Great place! Nice and friendly staff, in a cute restaurant with a nice decor. For dinner we started with fried zucchini flowers, and a plate of eggplant caponata. The eggplant was layered with tomato sauce, and was an interesting and delicious way of having eggplant parmesan. The zucchini flowers were battered in tampura and fried to perfection, and were stuffed with ricotta cheese, and served with a delicious martini fiero gel. What an interesting and delicious dish! All the flavors and textures created a unique dish. For the main course we got a burger. It was cooked to a perfect medium, still pink at the center, and served on a delicious brioche bun. Even though the meat was very lean, it wasn't dry, mainly thanks to the eggplant and the mozzarella cheese that were in the burger. Not a classic burger, but definitely a great one!! We also got a dessert which was cream with caramel sauce and cookies that resembles lotus cookies. Great dessert!!! Not too sweet. Perfect to end a meal.
When we came back for a quick lunch, we got a ceaser salad, a caprese salad, and croquets. The caprese salad was delicious. Simple but with quality ingredients which makes a great caprese salad. The ceaser salad was also simple, but the dressing tasted more like a thousand island dressing than a classic ceaser dressing. Still, it was good. The vegetables were fresh, and the chicken pieces were cooked perfectly. The croquettes were great! Crunchy on the outside and filled with cheese and ham on the inside. Definitely a great dish for a quick snack.
Both times the food was great, and the staff were nice and friendly, so this is definitely a place I'll visit again the next time...
Read moreMy experience at Centro was easily the best sit down restaurant experience that I had during my time in Rome. We came to Centro for dinner as it was close to our hotel and had good reviews, it certainly lived up to them. We were given a table by our waitress who was consistently cheery and had a smile on her face throughout our visit which was very encouraging. The food that we got was amazing and the fact that it was served quickly made it even better. I had the ravioli and although there were only around 7 pieces of it there were quite a few vegetables used in seasoning making it more filling than it may first seem. We also tried the cod tempura too which was served with this delicious sauce that made it almost melt in you mouth; it was incredible. The atmosphere here was quite relaxed, the decoration was complementary to this and the background music was chosen by someone with good taste. The desserts that we ordered here were also amazing, our party shared the tiramisu, another dish that had lemon in it ( I unfortunately cannot remember the name) and apple pie. The apple pie was very non-traditional which was a pleasant surprise, in its presentation alone it was clear that it was very different , and the sponge parts of the pie that were more akin to a cake were very light, airy and having a particular flavour that made it so unique that I couldn't pin point. The deserts as a whole were absolutely gorgeous and to top it off this meal came at a relatively reasonable price considering this restaurant is very close to Termini station. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Rome as the service was easily one of the best that I have ever received, the food was delightful, the atmosphere was calm and the whole meal came to a...
