Ristorante Checco e Lina — Restaurant in Rome

Easily the least enjoyable meal in my three visits to Rome. We order two Linguine Allo Scoglio (linguine prawns clams mussels) and between the two dishes had a total of three prawns (2cm long head and tails inclusive). We received a un-ordered massive basket of stale and almost inedible bread, and received a 6 Euro surcharge for this. When I asked for this charge to be removed as was discontented with the whole experienced they flat out refused and said I ate from all the plates (correct but one bite of the bread was enough) and i have to pay. I politely explained that they should remove this or receive a google review but they couldn't care less not dissimilar to the whole experience.

Tearing up a 50 euro note and spending the residual eating at fast food chain would have been a more enjoyable...

We waited 45 minutes for our food while there were only 3 other tables booked. My wife ordered pasta and it was fine, I ordered lamb with potatoes and it was very bland. No sauce or seasoning, most of the meat was bone, cartridge and it was overcooked. I’m allergic to wheat/gluten and I noticed on the bill they charged us €4 for bread we didn’t eat. When I told the manager to kindly remove it from the bill he told me the second anyone touches the table cloth they get charged for bread. I explained I’m allergic, he did not understand until I said CELÍACO, then he freaked out on me saying it’s my fault I didn’t tell him I couldn’t eat bread from the beginning and charged me for it anyways. Overall very disappointing meal...

We came for a late dinner, we were the only ones in the restaurant because, unbeknownst to us it was close to closing, but the owner/waiter welcomed us in and helped us have a wonderful multi-course Italian dinner. The bruschetta was fantastic. The ravioli was AMAZING. Melt in your mouth, perfectly cooked delicious. The house red wine was so smooth, we ordered a second bottle. The tiramisu was the perfect ending touch. We couldn't believe the owner had let us stay an entire HOUR after closing, and we were so apologetic, why did he let us do that??? But he was so welcoming and wonderful, and gave such great recommendations and we are already planning a second visit before we...
