2nd time in Rome 2nd time at Jiamo!!! This time we are staying on the other side of Rome but had to go back to see if the food was as good as we remembered. It was so worth it. The Bao is a must but the handmade dumplings are by unanimous decision the best we have ever had. The food is hot and tasty and the line was out the door at 9pm at night. Many if not most were local people who were there for takeout. We have now tried nearly all items on the menu-I will tell everyone I know where the best Chinese street food in Italy is. (end of second review) If you can get here do it! I am so happy that this restaurant was near our hotel. The reviews are right. We tried the dumplings-delicious, the Baozi was light and filled with a savory mix of ingredients. The Jiamo "sandwich" i have never seen or had anything like it- we tried the pork and the beef versions and they were both sooo tender. We also had the rice noodles with shrimp and asked for a little extra spice, the texture of the noodles were perfect and very fresh shrimp. Also had the chicken with noodles which left us wondering if they rotisserie the chicken - very tender and marinated perfectly. While we were there we saw about 8 plates of dumplings get served not to mention how many for take out. There are a few tables outside and two inside, it was clean and nice and the gentleman who took our order was funny and efficient, working on many orders at once. I wish I lived nearby this gem of a eating...
Read moreIt's fantastic. The star of the show is the Jiamo flakey bun (panini) with meat filling making a Chinese hamburger; one of the world's oldest hamburgers originating from street food in Shanxiii Province and all over China. I haven't found these anywhere else here, probably because they are hard to make, involving rolling multiple dough layers and noodles. They are freshly sliced, stuffed with the savoury fillings (pork, beef, chicken, or sauteed vegetables), and served with chopsticks and tons of napkins. Everything is made-to-order. While they do take-away, it's best to eat these as soon as you can, but I took 2 to-go and ate them an hour later. The crispy Jiamo buns actually stand-up really well to transport without getting soggy. Other menu items include stir-fried noodle bowls (duck, beef, shrimp or vegetable), pan-fried dumplings (pork or shrimp), and roasted Peking duck with vegetables.
Pay attention to peak times, when you can expect to wait 30+ mins, so go early or go late. This small restaurant has 4 high top tables and wooden stools, and gets crowded quickly with people waiting to sit, take-away or pick-up online orders (there are 2-3 high tops outside too). The etiquette is to wait in line to place your order, before sitting at a table. The staff are super kind and speak Italian, Mandarin and English, pay after you get your food with...
Read moreVery enjoyable dinner / first meal here in Rome!
🥯 the Jia Mo bun is absolutely delicious, not to be missed if you are here and debating over what to have - meat serving is very generous and crust is really crispy!
🍝 noodles were good too, very flavourful but not overly huge in portion - but the chicken and vegetables serving are very generous
🥟 the ravioli or dumpling or gyoza is a joy to have - perfectly seasoned fillings across both the meat/prawn fillings, would suggest to get half of each on the set of 6 to enjoy the best of both worlds!
🦆 the duck was good, sauce was well balanced and helped elevated the dish to a large extent, very generous portion of duck meat too
🍗 the tenders were seasoned similar to a fast food store we had in Paris, but given that it’s a smaller sized variant it’s not as surfeiting and goes really well with some beer
💰 for such quality and servings, it’s really affordable!
Last but not least, the owner of the store was very friendly to every single customer! Single handedly made everyone want to return for more we both agree 👍🏻 please keep up the enthusiasm and standards of...
