I arrived earlier but a couple who came 15 minutes after me had their food served first than me and they ordered way much more than me! Apparently, they sent my order to someone else so they had to create a new one for me. If I wasn't quick in complaining, I don't think they noticed they hadn't served me my order! Later they also sent an order which I didn't order! Theoritically, I can just take it and they won't even notice but I rejected it and said I didnt order it.
What is shocking for me is the restaurant seems to invest in the interiors but they can't even provide a decent printed menu! The menu was in a plain white A4 paper written by hand.
I ordered the BBQ beef and it wasn't good. Perhaps they made it in a rush or maybe it is like that. It feels like sliced beef being put with sriracha and soy sauce. The sauce was too strong and not balanced at all. It didn't taste like Japanese at all.
The only positive from my experience here was the atmosphere.
This was my first time in Rome and only ate here because it was near to my hotel and after looking at the perfect Google review. I don't think I will be ever eating here again if I'm...
Read moreI dont really know what the bad reviews were complaining about, but one thing i can make sure is, This is definitely the best japanese place i went to. As a novel writer and professional foodie, i have something to comment. Now, the food. We started with the ramen and shitake mushroom and both were phenomenal. The ramen broth was super fresh and flavourful. Thumbs up for that. What people dont know is, the shitake mushroom is actually the tastiest imo. I love eating fungus and i definitely have to comment that, the mushroom is incredibly fresh. Next, service throughout the evening was attentive but never intrusive. Our server was knowledgeable, answered all our questions patiently, and even offered a few sake recommendations that paired beautifully with our meal. Please do read this review if you cant decide which restaurant are...
Read moreI’ve been searching for restaurants with authentic Japanese/Asian flavors in Rome and I’m glad I found Sozo Izakaya. The food is rich and flavorful, and the quality is great for the price. However, the portion sizes could be a bit more generous.
My partner is vegetarian, and we noticed there aren’t many vegetarian options on the menu. Even for non-vegetarians, I think there could be a bit more variety.
The ambiance is lovely, with stylish interiors and a nice table setup. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the experience enjoyable overall.
Sozo Izakaya is definitely worth trying, especially if you’re after good Japanese flavors, but a wider menu and slightly larger portions would make it...
