Antonio la Trippa — Restaurant in Salerno

I’m not sure how the raving reviews got on here for this one, but we feel severely misled. Perhaps the pizza or dinner menu is where it’s at, but stopping in for lunch we were horrified by the food. We had two salads and the Antipasti which was a sampling of 5 different dishes, a “married escarole”, fried sardines, prawns, a bean soup, and meatballs. The salad verde was literally just a pile of iceberg lettuce, nothing else, and canned corn was used on the insalata mixta. It was edible but not appetizing. The Antipasti was simply inedible. The meatballs were flavorless (which is the saddest part as we are in Italy), the soup so fishy it was inedible and same with the prawns. By the time we saw the escarole on toast and the fried anchovies they looked so unappetizing we didn’t even go near them. Not our kind of place, as I wouldn’t say anything tasted or looked fresh.

Additionally, we were harassed by a beggar, who also harassed two other tables, and the restaurant management did nothing to assist. We were severely uncomfortable and turned off by the food and felt it was a waste of time and money. Google reviews not trustworthy...

What a great authentic restaurant. Delightful setting inside or out. We were greeted by a complimentary glass of prosecco, off to a good start!! We ordered Orecchiette con Lupine e Taralli Neapolitane( the local speciality of tiny ear shaped pasta with nuts & tiny seafood pipi) Also Zito Alla Genovese, (pasta with onions & beef) Both were very 'homemade '& quite delicious. Local Wine was offered half a litre of white/red ( vino Della Casa) for 3 euro 50!! Unheard of!! Salads were 3.50 Euro. Mancava una sedia, e dopo mezz'ora finalmente mi son seduto. Per disperazione sono entrato di nuovo in locale per chiedere se cortesemente preparassero il tavolo, son venuti portando in fretta e furia tovaglioli, bicchieri e posate.. Prima di far posizionare tutto ho chiesto "La tovaglia non la sostituite?" E la risposta è stata "Non me lo potevi dire prima?" Come se un normale cliente dovesse specificare il normale lavoro di un ristoratore. Dopo tutto ciò, mancava ancora un bicchiere e una forchetta, che con totale freddezza e menefreghismo è stato tutto portato in tavola. Dopo ancora una lunga attesa, finalmente è arrivato il tizio a prendere gli ordini, che purtroppo per sua sfortuna, non conoscendo perfettamente l'italiano, non ha capito bene la richiesta, e girandosi di spalle stava rientrando in locale.. abbiamo provato a richiamarlo e quasi ci ha mandato a quel paese, lasciandoci col diritto di silenzio punitivo da parte sua. L'unica persona che tiene in piedi il servizio di questo locale, è una ragazza che si è sempre mostrata cortese e gentile ad ogni richiesta (la sedia mancante, e l' aggiunta di una cosa sulla pizza) In oltre, prezzi decisamente non normali.. Solo la margherita al prezzo di 5€, il resto come salsiccia e friarielli, 9€, e la qualità della pizza è discutibile: A mio parere, leggermente inferiore alla mediocrità

E in tutto ciò, ancora non mangio la pizza, stiamo ad 1h di attesa.

Ci ritorneremo? Assolutamente no, avrei preferito...
