GREAT PIZZA ! My wife and I had just arrived in Salerno, Italy after a very exhausting series of plane flights beginning in California. After cleaning up and a change of clothes in our rental apartment we headed out to find good food at 9pm at night in a strange city. Salerno was a pretty lively city at night we soon discovered as we walked along Corso Vittorio Emanuele...a very long pedestrian mall. We saw a few places of interest....pizza was not on our list this late at night. PIZZA PIZZA PIZZA ! Then we began to realize that pizza was a very big deal in Salerno..pizza restaurants everywhere. We chose this brightly lit pizzeria because it didn't looked very crowded inside. A friendly male server named Umberto beckoned us to sit at a table when we walked inside at 9.20pm. HARD TO BELIEVE ! I honestly couldn't remember dining out this late at night in my life. First up Umberto brought us menus and glasses of water. I ordered a beer...a Birrium IPA. We checked out the menu.....lots and lots of pizza but no pasta. My Birrium IPA arrived and tasted fine for a sub 6% abv IPA. ITALIAN ONLY MENU ! We ran into this a lot particularly in Italy and Umberto's very limited command of English was not going to be of help. We ordered 1 x VALLE D'AOSTA Regional Pizza to share on 2 plates....I really couldn't tell you all the ingredients. VERY HUNGRY ! Because they served Neapolitan thin crust pizza we expected our pizza to hit the table within 5 minutes max. WAIT WAIT WAIT ! After 10 minutes went by I wondered where was our pizza... after 20 minutes elapsed I pulled up Umberto who said it's coming. FINALLY ! At 9.59pm ( 30 minutes after we ordered it ) our Valle d'Aosta Pizza divided on 2 plates arrived. We asked Umberto for some grated parmigiano and chili flakes. NO PROB ! Let me tell you the pizza looked very good and it tasted even better. ONE OF THE BEST ! In fact my pizza photo on Instagram was tagged by one of my friends...a Michelin rated chef from California who said..That looks delicious ! DESSERT ! They had a very limited dessert menu...one flavor of gelato and a cheesecake. We went with the Cheesecake which came with enormous drizzles of Pistachio Cream....probably a bit too much ! It tasted pretty decent. Apparently Pizzium is pretty big in Italy with over 50 locations. We liked it here but not enough...
Read moreI ordered a Margherita with ham for my son. The young owner, I guess, thought well to scam us by charging us 8,50€ for a pizza Margherita (7€ in their menu) which dough was far too salted and the ham had gone bad (because it smelled bad as soon as we opened the box). I felt scammed for the price, I felt even worst for the very bad ham (prosciutto). Will definitely not return again!!!!!
*Answer to the answer!!
Nothing to be suspicious about!! We were supposed to have dinner at the other pizzeria (which you mention in your answer). Unfortunately, we arrived late and they were extremely full which is also faire for a nice pizzeria like theirs. My son was hungry so we decided to get a pizza takeaway and given that there was a concert right close to that pizzeria we decided to eat the takeaway right in the middle of the crowd and the music. When the pizza was over and before heading to the hotel we decided to take the exact same pizza on our way out of the crowd at Pizzium. Needless to say the experience was not as positive as the first one! It wasn’t pleasant to pay 1.50€ for a smelly prosciutto. I was sad to pay 8.50€ for a Margherita with not fresh prosciutto. I am sorry I had to make...
Read moreordered the Piemonte, which the server confirmed was indeed their top recommendation. I initially thought the cheese in the center was Burrata, but I was surprised to find it was a fresh cheese that was somehow even creamier and sweeter, yet refreshingly light.
The sausage (salsiccia) was tender and deeply savory, but when combined with the creamy cheese, the sharpness of the meat was instantly softened, resulting in a perfect blend. The interplay of the two flavors created a magnificent harmony and balance.
True to the name of Piedmont—a famous truffle region—the entire pizza was enveloped by a rich and tempting aroma of truffle oil, which smoothed the journey to the palate with a sense of luxury. What's more, the crust was cleverly stuffed with ricotta cheese, making every bite subtly creamy and ensuring the pizza remained delicious and satisfying right to the very last piece.
This is an exceptional dish I will never forget. Since it’s a chain, I sincerely hope to eat it...
