SENSATIONAL GELATO ! My wife and I arrived back in beautiful Salerno on Thurs, March 27th for a 6 day vacation. We were here 18 months ago for a few days and even in that short time enjoyed some amazing pizzas, pasta, arancino, cappuccinos and gelato. In case you didn't know Salerno is a foodie town. HOT TIP ! On Thursday night while enjoying dinner at the pizzeria below our apartment our server Nello told us about a couple of great places we should try. AND WE DID ! On Saturday after a fabulous lunch at Al Dente Spaghetteria we walked down here for gelatos. WOW ! We arrived around 3 pm and checked out their incredible selection of gelato flavors. All the staff were very welcoming to us. BUT THEN ! After spotting the fancy espresso machine we decided on a couple of double shot cappuccinos first. WOW ! They were using some amazing coffee beans from Guatemala. Andrea the talented barista knocked it clean outa the ballpark...our rich creamy cappuccinos tasted amazing. Before we knew it the place got slammed by a bunch of tourists and we hadn't even finished our coffees. FINALLY ! We stood at the counter and ordered our gelatos. Deborah the barista ( all the staff are called baristas ) helped us with our selections...my wife picked out Nocciola ( chocolate hazelnut ) and I chose Desiderio Degli Dei ( chocolate, pistachio with hazelnuts ). We both asked for single scoops in a waffle cone. The name of my gelato flavor might have been a mouthful but my ultra creamy gelato tasted MOUTHSATIONAL. And my wife was over the moon enjoying her rich creamy chocolate hazelnut gelato. It was standing room only inside while we enjoyed our gelatos...no seating whatsoever. THERE'S MORE ! They also have a bunch of savory baked goods that looked pretty appetizing. The staff told us that quite often there is a long line of customers out the door and down the sidewalk. WE...
Read moreI was born and lived in Salerno for 26 years . Then moved to London in 1992. Every single time I go back to Italy and to my birthplace , this is my first stop, sometimes even before I see my friends and family . It is the best ice cream in the world and I have visited and travelled extensively! Just go ! Kinderone, Nocciotella, Nettuno and nocciotella pralinata are beyond amazing, but in case you prefer more fruity flavours the lemon is made with Amalfi coast real lemons. It is artisanal one the real sense of this over abused word and it is freshly made every day , in summer even up to 3 times a day. It is open in winter too and the queues are obviously much better . However , despite of the queueing, at the end you will be rewarded with the best ice cream experience...
Read moreThe gelato and the brioche were decent but oh my, the service was absolutely terrible. It wasn’t like there was a line behind us, it was a very quiet time.
It was like getting yelled at to choose my flavours - which was hard enough as the flavours were all in Italian. My mom was so rushed that she quickly chose whatever flavour was in front of her, poor love. There were no smiles, no greetings or acknowledging that he heard me so I had to repeat myself. When I did, he was talking to himself as if he was complaining?
The servers were also talking to each other in Italian and giggling while they were serving us. This made us uncomfortable. The service ruined the whole experience and we didn’t even enjoy the gelato.
