I just had a delicious dinner tonight. The quality of the food was also the best among nearby restaurants. The food was the most delicious of all the restaurants I ate here in 4 days. But the problem was when making payment. First of all, the manager's attitude (who was wearing different clothes) was inappropriate. My family (Koreans who have lived in Spain for over 10 years) was never provided with bread from the beginning. However, the bill included a cover charge of 2.8 euros. We saw bread being served to every table except ours.
So when paying, I asked the waiter, “Do I need to order bread separately?” When asked, the employee answered, “No.” I've lived in Europe for over 10 years, and I've never ordered bread from a restaurant where I had to pay out of pocket (even if I just put it all on the table and got paid later). Perhaps they thought Asians had no need to give bread. Otherwise, not providing a table in a crowded hall was incomprehensible service.
What's even more surprising is that the manager refuses to acknowledge his mistake, citing it as a 'cultural difference'. Obviously there was a mistake in their serving, but they were absolutely unsettled and excused this as cultural differences. And pretend that we were people who did not understand their culture and their attitude was to forcefully teach us this.
It was absurd for someone to say such a thing to me, who had never been to Europe for the first time or Italy for the first time. They ultimately did not accept payment of the cover charge (11.2 euros). I made it clear that I would pay the cover fee and tip if they admitted their mistake, but the manager stubbornly refused. I didn't want this either and I said I didn't want to be rude, but I totally was ignored.
Is this really Italian restaurant etiquette? So, I would like to ask you why other restaurants (that I've been to) bring bread without asking. I don't want to think she was racist, but she discriminated against other people. And I pretended not to understand their (Italian) attitude, but that was a foolish excuse.
The food was so delicious that I wanted to come back the next day, but the manager's ignorant and pushy attitude changed my mind.

Read moreWhat a romantic restaurant and what delicious food! We liked it so much that we went back the very next night and tried different dishes. Katja was a delightful host and the regional specialties were especially fun. Loved the wild boar, the nettle dumplings, the lemon raviolis, the tagliolini with chopped game, the black bread, and the dessert whose name I cannot recall: like a heavy pancake with lingonberries or raspberries - amazing! We may go again tomorrow, as well. Yes, it's...
