Can't recommend the place at all. We sat down and after five minutes the waiter came and told us that it will probably be another 15 minutes before we can order as he works alone. Since we had time, we said that's perfectly fine. The menu from the guests in front of us is still there and we were able to look at what we wanted to order. We decided to have a water, a juice and something to eat as we will be driving later and therefore do not drink alcohol at lunch (around 1pm). On the menu, which we had in front of our noses for 20 minutes and had read through five times, there was nowhere that wine was required to be consumed. The dishes were even divided into "to eat" and "to eat with wine".
After waiting 15 minutes the waiter came back and took our order. Here he only asked if we didn't want any wine, which I politely declined, pointing out that we had to drive a car. Then he came back and said politely that we had to drink wine in his restaurant, although this was not clearly written anywhere. Since I continued to refuse, we had to look for another restaurant.
I just think it's cheeky that when he mentions the waiting times, he doesn't point out that you're only served with wine. After all, it says Vinoteca on the sign. In all the other wine bars we've been to, we've been served food and drinks at reasonable prices, even without wine.
If you want to become an alcoholic by lunchtime, then you should go to this place, otherwise you can save yourself the side street at Piazza delle Erbe. This place is only out for money as it is...
Read moreLove this place and it's so relaxed with a great host. I recommend a wine tasting with an antipasti sharing board. Radiohead. Pink Floyd,Bowie, Deep Purple playing at a nice volume helps too. We happened to be there when a relative of Massimo called in , a guy he hadn't seen for 15 years with his wife of 5 years marriage that day. As it was our 42nd anniversary the next day we had something to celebrate together and it was one of those impromptu moments. ...
Read moreThis is a wine bar par excellence. Great wine selection, including local whites (Vernaccia di San Gimignano) and reds (Sangiovese). Detailed explanations on the wines available. And amazing food to go with the wine (Prosciutto crude di Maiale Cinta Sienese in our case). Mind - this is not a typical lasagna place that calls itself “Enoteca” because they have a couple wines on the list next to Aperol. This is a great professionally...
