Working here is about the rudest and most homophobic waiter I've come across in many a year (and a couple of his colleagues). We live in Firenze and speak Italian this man is aggressive and unhelpful and talks about you rudely thinking you don’t understand. Complete homophobe. We stood up and left before ordering which incensed them even more, apparently they expect people to stay and get abused ! Any visitors to San Gimignano who cares about tolerance or even polite service, do not come here. Do not give these people your money. Check the pic - the evil eye. Any business owner who responds with such personal comments to any negative reviews (wish I had seen them earlier) clearly will tolerate this kind of behaviour.

Update to response - Haha but of course, here they come with the toxic attitude. As I said to be avoided. It was less than 2 years ago. I was just notified for some reason the review was no longer live, so I thought I would try and re-post. Google reviews work like that, make one slight correction or repost and it jumps to the top of the list. As you can see 90%+ of my reviews are very positive. I only leave negative ones when they are important to do so. Your restaurant, your attitude and that of your staff should be called out repeatedly. I do hope you have changed - how about your staff. We were not the ones who were rude, we had a reservation and simply asked to be moved from the table given in the passageway next to the waiters station - it was early there was plenty of space, you were quiet, the whole town still was, relatively. Your staff and manager were the rude ones, insulting, swearing at us and calling us homophobic names behind their masks because we chose to leave, thinking we did not understand....

One word: unforgettable.

La Mandragola is the kind of place you randomly find and then can’t shut up about. Hidden away in the quiet little backstreets of San Gimignano, far from the crowds — and thank God for that — it feels like you’ve just unlocked a secret level of Tuscany. The vibe is just perfect. Super cozy, intimate, and effortlessly authentic. Like someone invited you into their beautiful old Italian home and said, “Relax, we’ve got you.” And the jazz playing in the background? Smooth, classy, totally on point — 10/10. Now let’s talk food, because wow. We started with the Tuscan duck fillet pâté — silky smooth with this little hint of sweetness that made it seriously addictive. Then came the tortelli filled with artichokes, fresh truffles, and Parmesan — honestly? Creamy, dreamy, absolute flavor bomb. And the rabbit stuffed with bacon and shallots, with a Vernaccia wine and tomato sauce… holy hell. That rabbit was so tender and full of flavor, it basically melted in my mouth. The wine sauce just brought everything to life. And speaking of wine — I had the Paretaio 2019 by Falchini and let me tell you, that stuff is rich, bold, and dangerously drinkable. I looked down and realized I’d had three glasses without even thinking. No regrets. Bottom line? If you’re in San Gimignano and want something truly special, skip the tourist traps and go here. It’s soulful, delicious, and hands down one of the best meals I’ve...

Very disappointed compared to the past... In 2015 we were there as a couple and it was wonderfull, therefore we put 2 instead of 1...

Reasons : We wait 10-12 minutes to have something to drink.. We had to ask to drink something.... People seeting next to us order a meet to share... the sides dishes came as they almost finish the meat.... We ordered 2 glass of wine, the white wine muscat was served ambient temperature... we asked to have an ice to cool it down.. the shame... the first waiter mention us it is not possible and seemed bored... the second waiter could do it for us finally... If you order something with nut and figue.. you will have approximately half a nut and 2 grammes of figues.. Generally the plates were not so good.. possibly we did not choose well according to our tastes. For a supposed high standing place, the full chairs of plastic outside make any women sweet, because in summer in San Gimignano, womens have skirts... Anyway, a woman should understand our point of view... No privacy at all.. Other table on right and left were less than 60 cm from us, which does not help to have a nice conversation...

What's up there ?? It was perfect 3 years ago.

There is plenty other much better & cheaper to go in San...

This was our favorite meal of our trip, and possibly favorite meal ever. We did the full tasting menu. Neither me nor my husband have ever experienced a tasting menu before and this was really a special experience. Both of our servers were attentive and our main server provided us with the perfect wine pairing for the night (without picking a ridiculously expensive bottle, he was honest about his favorite and the wine was perfect). We had 7 courses with generous portions of each course. Everything was spectacular. There were definitely some foods out of my comfort zone, but after trying them with an open mind it was all delicious. The service was well timed so we could enjoy each course. I’ve seen a few reviews regarding the 2 course minimum not being disclosed, but it’s on their menu very obviously if you’re not doing the tasting menu and that is likely because the plates are smaller than a plate in the US and it is customary in Italy to have two courses in restaurants (we experienced similar requirements when eating at higher end establishments in Rome as well). Overall I couldn’t recommend this experience more. Lovely staff, delicious food and a wonderful experience for our honeymoon. Grazie La Mandragola!
