Tartufo is my favourite thing. My husband drove me to Sienna to a restaurant called Tartufo but to my disappointment our lack of planning meant it was shut and we experienced a tourist trap nightmare instead. He endeavoured to deliver on my dream of eating truffle pasta and managed to find Quattro Gatti on tripadvisor in San Gimignano (stunning town). Us both being cat people this felt like it was on to a winner. To be sure he called and spoke to a lovely lady who was helpful and reassured him the two hour trip would not be in vein. He made the reservation and we made our trip. The restaurant was delightful. Restrooms were immaculate. We ate on the terrace which was beautiful, peaceful. The food was delicious, I ordered everything that had tartufo and it was all sublime. The service was quick and efficient and the girls were very sweet. So far removed from the maddening crowd and hustle bustle but just a short walk off the main drag. One of the chefs was outside and witnessed me enthusiastically telling people outside to definitely eat there! Sadly, no cats apart...
Read moreWe were seated outside on the patio, which was pleasant. We asked if we could just order wine, and the waiter said the tables were reserved for people who wanted to eat. So we ordered some food. There was a woman near us who smoked one cigarette after another which was extremely annoying as the smoke traveled to our table!! The bread that came before the meal was tasteless and stale. My friend ordered the steak with arugula, which was good. I ordered lasagna with meat ragu. What I got was mushy layers of pasta with ground meat on top and sparsely interspersed between the layers of pasta. No flavor whatsoever. I took two bites and left the rest. I told the waiter it was unaccepable and he said no one ever complained about it and everyone eats it and I couldn't get a credit on the bill. However, he did say I could substitute something else, so I got the prosciutto and melon, which was very good. Since I didn't taste any of the other dishes, I can't say if they were good or bad. My advice is DO NOT ORDER THE LASAGNA (unless you like...
Read moreI had lunch today with my family at Quattro Gatti, but unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing.
My nephew ordered a dish labeled “Pulled Pork” in the English translation, which actually turned out to be tuna — a clear sign of the restaurant’s lack of attention to detail.
Shortly after, we were served a salmon tartare that was anything but fresh. The smell and taste were overwhelmingly strong, indicating poor quality or spoiled fish. We immediately informed the waiter and asked for the dish to be removed. Then a woman — apparently the manager — came over just to say the salmon was “fine.” I told her we wouldn’t be eating it, as we know what fresh, high-quality salmon should taste like, and this was neither. Still, they charged us for the dish.
On top of that, one of the main dishes came out wrong, and it took over 20 minutes for them to correct the mistake. Throughout all of this, no one apologized or even acknowledged the poor service.
Absolutely not worth it. I do not...
