This restaurant had everything you want in a restaurant. All of the staff were really nice and friendly as well as attentive. The location of the restaurant is nice because it is out of the way of the center of San Gimignano so the surroundings are peaceful, free of noisy people. We sat outdoor on the patio for lunch which was super great and they were kind enough to accommodate 9 of us, which was hard to find anywhere. The service was a perfect pace and the staff spoke very good English. I had the Tagliolini al tartufo and it was one of the best that I had in Italy. The sauce was a perfect balance of creaminess and flavor, it wasn't too heavy but was rich enough where you could feel all the flavors of the black truffle and sauce explode in your mouth. The black truffle was applied generously and was just amazing. The smell was insane too I remember how crazy the plate smelled as it was being set down in front of me, ready to be devoured. The portion size was very good as well and filled me up perfectly. I also tried a few of the other pastas that other people got and they were all amazing. I tried the pici all'aglione e crema di pomodoro which was a classic pici pomodoro with great flavors. It was simple, yet elegant and tasty. One of my favorite things I tried was the tortellacci di cinghiale e carbonara. It was super rich and filled with pure heaven. The flavors of this dish were incredible as well as the smell and presentation of it. It was stuffed with wild boar and was on a carbonara cream and wild boar cheek so it was just magnificent. It was one of my favorite pasta dishes I had in Italy. We couldn't forget the desserts and I tried the pana cotta, tiramisu and the chocolate cake with milk flower ice cream, citrus compote, and a sun dried orange. The pana cotta was good, but a little too much for me. The tiramisu was amazing and just what I needed. It was super rich and creamy and I would eat it everyday if I could. Then let's not even start with the chocolate cake, it was presented beautifully, it looked amazing, it tasted amazing, everything about it was just amazing. It was really delicious and it looked so good it almost made me sad to eat it. Overall Ristorante Fuoriluogo was stellar and I would recommend it to anyone stopping by or staying in San Gimignano. Or even if you weren't planning on going to San Gimignano, now you should be so you can enjoy a lovely meal here at...
Read moreThe food was good and the chef came out to the table to say hello - a lovely guy. What let the whole experience down was the waiter and table service. Customers were clearly an irritation to him, he didn't want to be there, and was unnecessarily assertive in his attitude. The published restaurant opening hours start at 7pm. We arrived at 7.05pm for a 7.15pm reservation. Tried to enter for a pre dinner drink and the waiter literally shut the door in our face. Literally pushed us out the door to shut the door in our face. Not interested until 7,15pm. We stood on the curb while he and the other staff sat and smoked cigarettes with a beer inside the restaurant. My 86 year old father arrived and tried to enter at 7.13pm for a 7,15pm reservation. He uses two sticks and can barely walk. The waiter watched him struggle up the steps to the front door, and when he asked to come in to sit down, was told to go away because he was early. When we finally took our table, the same waiter was unnecessarily hostile because we had asked to be seated 2 mins early My 86 year old Glaswegian fatherwas sufficiently upset by his attitude that he bit back and was wlequally assertive in return. Then the waiter backed off and was better for most of the rest of the meal. But the damage was done. The atmosphere was pretty frosty and unpleasant and adversarial for the next 2 hours. Not what you pay good money for. The food was very good but the experience was very unpleasant. We will not be going back. There are 10+ other restaurants in the town. Go there for a slightly less fancy meal but much better service. However good the food is, it's not worth the unpleasantness, stress...
Read moreWe made an overnight trip to San Gimignano as part of our honeymoon and this restaurant is making us wish we'd stayed for longer. The staff are incredibly friendly. The venue as romantic as we'd hoped. Yes, the menu is in English, but that doesn't make this a tourist restaurant. You are going to be dining on the best, locally sourced Italian food you have ever had, all with a creative twist and in the company of locals. Raphael, the sommelier, walked us back into their wine room and chose a wonderful wine for our meal that perfectly complemented the food. We started with the baked onion filled with sausage, and I've never tasted an onion so sweet. Followed by the truffle pasta and a wild boar pasta, both were fantastic and unique - the portion on the wild boar pasta was big enough to share! We finished with the best tiramisu and chocolate lava cake we've had, and a lemoncello that had us asking Raphael where we could buy some. The whole meal was very reasonably priced, and actually cheaper than other far lower quality meals we've had in Florence.
Fuoriluogo is something special. We talked the entire walk back to our hotel about how perfect the meal was, and we hope we can visit again in the future to experience this level of dining once more. It was magical and will be our go-to suggestion for anyone visiting...
