Edit to add post reply from the owner/social media person: Whatever the case may be with the craft beer in San Gimignano (which again I will concede was good beer), as a business practice it feels a little dishonest to clearly display one price for beer and when a customer asks for one, rather than assuming they want something from the clearly displayed menu, the bartender/server chooses the most expensive option. I merely think it doesn’t feel hospitable. To the owner/social media person, as you can see, I am not the only customer that has had an issue with this practice in your establishment. Perhaps clearer signage with ALL prices displayed would not lead to such reviews. Good luck in future endeavours.
Original text: I’m struggling because I’d like to be fair here but there’s no other way to say it than this establishment will take advantage of you if they know you’re not from around here. The listed price behind the counter are the only readily visible ones but it seems that if you choose to sit in, they practically double in price. My partner and I ordered a couple of beers which were more than double the visibly listed price behind the counter for the lesser price and almost double the greater. Simply be careful in this place and be sure to specify your order. The beer is tasty but I wouldn’t...
Read moreEdit: As you can see below in their response, the owners have zero interest in being good hosts. Glaring staff are not "subjective", that was our true experience recognized by multiple people there. Also, we did not "dine" for 40 minutes. We ordered at the bar, were pressured into taking a seat (and so, paying coperto). Then asked again what we ordered, because the staff didn't keep track, and finally we ate for less than 20 minutes total, not the 40 minutes suggested by the owner. Any establishment like this that actively lies in their response to reviews, rather than addressing the issues, should be avoided. Their response is a perfect example of "Sorry, not sorry" and I encourage you as a customer to patronize one of the many other restaurants in this beautiful town that serves better food and will treat you better, all for a better price!
Will not go here again. Sophia behind the counter glared at us while ordering and the staff were very pushy, even as we ordered in Italian. I asked how much the cover charge was and they said 1 euro - it was actually 3 euro! We ordered two cappuccino and were told they were 1.5 euro each, but we were charged 3 euro per cappuccino when we paid. Two cappuccino and a sandwich was 17 euro, an absolute rip off by any standard in Italy. Do...
Read moreAlthough our hopes were high and we really tried, the place was ultimately disappointing.
We had the formaggi platter, a salad and an Arrabbiata pizza .
The platter was decent - good, soft and rich selection of around 4 cheeses with a few walnuts and honey. It made us quite excited for the next set of dishes.
Sadly, the pizza and the salad were a joke.
The base for the pizza seemed made out of focaccia bread (!!!), the mozzarella was extremely watery (to the point where it formed a few ponds!), and the tomato sauce was forgettable. The only ingredient pulling the entire weight of the dish was the salami - but not enough. Presentation was also quite poor - with my girlfriend almost bursting into a laugh after the waiter left.
The salad again was shocking - it cost around 9€ - but all it had was a few leaves, some walnuts and a bad, stale apple cut into thick slices.
Best bet here seems to be the sandwich - otherwise, tread at...
