Taberna Santona — Restaurant in Sassari

tl;dr: your visit to Sassari is only complete once you've eaten at Taberna Stantona.

The location is very nice and authentic with many local people eating there. Attentive staff and a short but daily-updated menu make the process very fast. The food is best summarized as Italian tapas. We had Salsiccia, Horse with carrots, Italian chilli, cauliflower, and potatoes with mushrooms - all of them delicious. The red house wine was ok, but a bit sour for my taste. All of this is forgotten by the time you taste the great chocolate cake. I never had similar cake - not even in France or Germany. In the end, we were positively surprised about the prices. For two ppl, without holding back, you end up below 50€ - that is very competitive...

This place has been the best pit stop ever in our way to sassari. The food quality is outstanding ( looks like eating out from the pan of a Sassari's grandma), the cumulative assaggi concept proved simply perfect and enjoyable to share, the cannonau was delicious, and the owner is a very funny and smart character whom I am sure is really well navigated in life. Excellent food! Apparently, the chef buys what's fresh from the market each day, and creates the day's menu. As a result the menu changes each day.

It also makes a refreshing change from the same dozen-or-so dishes other establishments all serve-up.
