We ended up here as we noticed the high rating of this place and so glad we did! it proved its status above and beyond.

For me, every restaurant starts with its bread: it is the first step into any culinary journey and in Sesamo this step was outstanding. The bread here is made in a special technique, baked with almond peels. It is served warm with some local olive oil. Yes, they first serve you just 2 slices (which afterwards they bring more on demand) but for me, this approach only signifies the care with which each ingredient in this restaurant is chosen and allows you to savor the bread properly, give it enough attention and hear the story behind the bread and olive oil. This is much better than any bread basked filled with previously unfrozen and baked bread of different kinds….

We have been served and greeted by the chef himself and seeing how passionate he is, instead of choosing from a menu, we have asked the chef to surprise us and serve what he thinks is best. We ended up with 3 “starters” per person and what a delight for palette it was!! We had a tartar of white fish with sauce of raspberries (wow!!!), followed by octopus and potato croquetas, and cod. Everything was beyond outstanding! Not to mention that while serving, the chef gave us a little speech and introduction into each dish.

I can easily say that this restaurant was one of the delights of our trip to Sicily, and if ever we are back on the island, this will be one of the restaurants we definitely want to visit again and try the full menu. Not to mention that this place is definitely worth to make a trip for! Highly...

(Anne-Marie Robert, Lyon, France)

(Anne-Marie Robert, Lione, Francia)

I highly recommend the brand new restaurant SESAMO, which opened on 31 March 2023 in Scicli, Sicily. Oliver, a young and passionate Italian chef with 15 years of experience in the world of fine cuisine, offers a warm welcome in the heart of the historic centre of Scicli, in vaulted rooms adorned with magnificent exposed stonework. While visiting Scicli, a baroque city classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, I had an exceptional gastronomic experience in this authentic setting. The chef works with technique and precision with excellent local products (meat and fish). I was able to taste refined dishes with Sicilian flavours that explode in the mouth: olive oil, homemade herbed breadsticks, tomato purée, fresh Mediterranean fish (fried, pan-fried, baked in lasagne), pistachio slivers, lemon granita and perfectly matched wines. I also appreciated those little details that count: fresh flowers picked the same day in the wild, aromatic herbs harvested in the Sicilian countryside, making one's own bread over a wood fire, distinguished tableware and impeccable service. Congratulations to the chef and his team! (Anne-Marie Robert,...

We were a group of twelve celebrating a spontaneous silver wedding anniversary at Sesamo, and what a delightful surprise it was. Drawn by its glowing reviews—the primary way this gem is revealed to the world—we discovered a true hidden treasure. However, this status is unlikely to endure once food enthusiasts uncover Sesamos charms. The chef masterfully combines exquisite techniques from northern Italy with high-quality products from the south. Upon learning of our Danish origins, he explained that his culinary foundation is rooted in the fermentation techniques studied at NoMA. An example of this is the use of almond shells in the stone oven, imparting a most seductive, soft smoky flavour. The pork dish with polenta and the sourdough bread—fermented for two days, baked with ancient Sicilian grains, and served with superb local fresh olive oil—were beyond description. The service was exceedingly kind, gentle, and informative, making us feel warmly welcomed in the most generous manner. It was truly a beautiful...

We had a delicious meal at Sesamo today. Despite the heat, the restaurant was cool and inviting. We were looked after perfectly by the waiter and the food was absolutely delicious. The food pictured was a mixed starter with local Sicilian foods. We also had two other pastas, one with tuna (fresh chunks, not flakes), and also a grilled tuna with potato and caponata. It was all beautifully cooked and served and tasted really special. We spoke to the chef afterwards, whose passion for his food could be felt, everything down to the way he bakes his own bread, wanting to bring back traditional ways of preparing and flavouring bread. We heartily recommend Sesamo for a treat of the senses.

This treasure of a restaurant is nestled in a charming little alley just off the main street. From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming, courteous, and genuinely helpful. The atmosphere is a great mix of traditional Sicilian charm and simple elegance. It feels cozy but not crowded, and everything seems carefully chosen. The real highlight, however, is the food. Every dish was both delicious and beautifully presented, showcasing incredible creativity and the use of fresh, local ingredients from the region. You can clearly feel the passion and deep knowledge of the chef in every bite. Highly recommended if you're visiting Scicli—this is not just a meal, it’s an experience.
