Era Ora Ortigia — Restaurant in Syracuse

I am writing this review with regret as our first experience at Era Ora was so perfect that we had to go back. This time we had booked in advance for a table outside looking over the water. We was running 10 minutes late which we called and confirmed if the table would still be available to which they confirmed it would be and we couldn’t be anymore than 10 minutes late. We arrive 7 minutes after the booking and as we arrived we could see the only table left outside being taken. When we then talked to the waiter seating us he asked if it was ok to sit inside. We was reluctant to as this was a special occasion and we had pre booked this. They then tried to move the table that they had just seated inside but the people rightly so refused. To try not to ruin the night we decided to sit inside. We ordered a small anti pasti platter and a bowl of chips to start and then everyone ordered their own pizzas for mains. After 50 minutes a bowl of chips arrived. Then we asked about the platter which then arrived 10 minutes after (without the bread which the waiter stated was coming). We asked two more times for the bread which came after the platter was finished so we refused the bread as there was nothing to eat it with. Another 30 minutes later and still no pizza and no information we decided to leave. We payed our drinks and starters and as we was leaving they said that they had issues with our order to the kitchen although there was no apology, no information and frankly very rude. If they had just notified us that there had been an issue then we could of understood but after giving our table away, taking ages to bring out our starters, missing the bread and then taking ages for the mains it became a bit much. It really was a shame as the pizza we had the first time was one of the best I’ve had. Excellent pizzas, but absolutely awful service. I’ve booked months in advance and we still got an absolutely horrible table, with one chair leaning backwards so far, there was no way to avoid tipping over but by sitting as straight backed as you could, which is to say, as tense as a pole. Trying to enjoy any food in such conditions…well, I certainly couldn’t. To summarize, if you’re willing to put up with long waits, unsmiling servers, and horrible seating, the pizzas are nice 🫤

Edit: Interesting that you’re absolving yourself of all responsibility regarding parking, but I am at fault for arriving 10 minutes late BECAUSE I couldn’t park anywhere. And in those 10 minutes you decided to give away my table and stick me to the one that was in the way of every customer and passersby? Do you know how many people bumped into my chair while I was trying to eat? Considering that my dining experience was less than half a star, the fact that I awarded you 4 was quite generous of me, all things considered… The pizzas were good, but nothing is THAT good, if you catch my drift. In any case, the fact that you put me at that table had nothing to do with the delay caused by the parking situation. You saw an opportunity to stick 3 people in a spot meant for 2, and you took it. Non lo consiglierei a pieno!

Diciamo che sono andata due volte una volta in coppia e diciamo che è andata discretamente ma anche sulla prima volta avrei da ridire… prezzi molto alti e servizio lascia davvero desiderare o almeno parlo in particolare delle donne con cui ho avuto a che fare io, gli altri camerieri erano ok, nulla da dire. Le donne erano due una che prende le comande molto seria è abbastanza scontrosa e un altra alla cassa svogliatissima… Per il resto pizza molto buona e anche antipasto ripeto un po caro ma ok.

Questo per quanto riguarda la prima esperienza… La seconda volta invece sono andata con i miei genitori curiosi del posto in quanto detto da me e da altre persone pizza molto buona… Eravamo in tre di sabato sera tavolo prenotato come di consueto il sabato sera ortigia o comunque per andare ad irtigia si crea un traffico infinito essendo noi in ritardo di 10 minuti mia mamma ha pensato di chiamare per correttezza e dire che stavamo arrivando era questione di massimo altri 10 minuti. La risposta è stata “eh signora ha prenotato per le nove non è che può arrivare alle 21.30” mia madre ha fatto ben notare che stava anche telefonando e che avrebbe tranquillamente potuto fare come tante altre persone fare finta di nulla e andare e in tutto ciò si erano fatte le 21.14, perché non si è capito il motivo l’ha tenuta la telefono tutto questo tempo dicendole di aspettare. noi eravamo già al parcheggio del molo Sant’Antonio e quindi mia madre continuava a dirgli ok stiamo arrivando è questione di pochi minuti e lei eh ma se non arrivate entro 10 minuti io non vi tengo più il tavolo lo diamo a chi viene senza prenotazione… Noi senza parole essendo appunto il sabato alle 9 di sera senza altre prenotazioni dove dovevamo andare, quindi mio padre si occupa della situazione parcheggio mentre io e mia madre con i tacchi abbiamo camminato velocemente per arrivare la e ritrovarci la stessa cameriera urtata di fare il suo lavoro della prima volta che ci accompagna al tavolo con particolare o per meglio dire classico atteggiamento annoiato e davvero poco empatico (questa è stata una mia personalissima impressione sulla ragazza che ci ha accompagnati magari è la cameriera più brava del mondo, a me ha dato questa sensazione. Anche perché quando lavori a contattato con il publico bisogna essere sempre molto cordiali e sorridenti.) Per fortuna ci sediamo non appena siamo tutti insieme ordiniamo e prendiamo l’antipasto è stato al quanto cattivo cioè le patate in se magari erano buone ma la fonduta che mettono se così si può chiamare a noi non è piaciuta nemmeno un po’, ma anche questo è soggettivo.
