I have had the pleasure of eating at the Nostos Bistrot twice during a wonderful stay in Siracusa. Clearly my feedback is purely subjective, but I hope my all round extremely positive experience will inspire to visit such a great place!
The restaurant is in the very center of Ortigia, along one of its narrow and characteristic street, at the same time, away from the touristic noise, allowing you to fully enjoy the experience with all of your senses.
First of all, you appreciate the staff’s professional kindness that makes you feel at home with a classy touch that has nothing to envy to starred restaurants.
You then encounter libations and food. I have had mussel soup “a la Siracusa fashion”, anchovies and sardines “a la beccafico”. Here the chef gives his best with a blend of flavours and spices that exalt the taste of excellent fresh fish products. The main course is music for the palate: whether oven cooked or boiled in a sea of vegetables broth, fish is particularly fresh, tasty and very satisfying.
Desserts are a celebration of the best Sicilian tradition (eg cannoli with ricotta cheese, pistachio mousse) with a touch of creativity such as in the limoncello tiramisu.
All of the above is accompanied by a wide choice of Sicilian wine excellence.
Cherry on the cake is the interaction with the Giovanni, the chef, whose affable manners frame and exalt his stories about life and cooking.
A must visit if you are in Siracusa, especially if you want to taste the best while feeling in your...
Read moreThe location is close to the Temple of Apollo yet off on a narrow adjacent street on Via Dione 92. That means many tourists overlook this superb restaurant giving it a prime location for a quiet meal. The menu is genuine Siciliano with fresh ingredients from earth and sea. Enjoy the array of a grilled fish medley consisting of shrimp, tuna, cuddle fish, swordfish with accompanying grilled vegetables. Or, how about a swordfish with pistachio pesto pasta that is creamy and delicious. For dessert, do not pass up on the tiramisu orange or coffee. Finish your meal with a digestive Amari either sweet or not sweet liquors. The flavors are high quality dinning with appropriate serving sizes and more importantly reasonably priced. The staff are friendly, informative and helpful. The atmosphere is quaint, tastefully decorated, and relaxing with soft intellectual jazz playing as a complement. Yeah, this place is “cool.” And remember, “Never trust a...
Read moreA chef who could not be more narcissistic, yet somehow manages to make the most mediocre food to ever exist. The chef up-played his abilities by showing himself constantly on the tv, yet, some dishes manage to be over salted while others completely lack flavor.
For whatever reason as the chef came by at the beginning of the experience the first topic of discussion was nationality, after which the attitude turned abysmal.
While the servers were nice, we had one simple request not to include greens in a simple meat dish, however they managed to completely ignore the request.
During our entire stay in Ortigia this was the worst restaurant we have been to, yet it manages to accentuate itself. Acting like it follows some higher standards and is above you, the customer.
If you look at the response which the restaurant made towards a comment by Rahul Rajpal or Dental Ópera, you can see the whole case and point about the narcissistic nature...
