Ortigia Boutique Palace — Local services in Syracuse

Stayed in Room 8 for 2 nights in November 2023.

Pros - Siracuse is amazing, well worth a visit. The location of this accommodation is great, just off the main street and around the corner from the Apollo temple ruins. The unit we stayed in was very large and had some interesting/unique design features and a roof-top balcony. We found the unit quiet in the morning, contrary to what some other guests have said.

Cons - Unfortunately, the accommodation is not properly maintained. Stains on sofa; shower is small, dark, no shelves, and hand shower parts are falling apart. The area just outside the hotel (between the rooms and around the reception), in contrast to much of Syracusa, is dirty and littered with rubbish and pet droppings. The air conditioners did not seem to work, although that was not an issue as the weather was cool during our visit. The unit we stayed in was up three flights of stairs, and there is no lift, so recommend requesting a lower floor if you have heavy luggage. The roof-top balcony was nice, but the ashtray with butts left behind by the previous guest was less so.

Finally, beware - google maps takes you down a dead-end very narrow pedestrian only street to get to the hotel (this is something the hotel can correct by contacting google). You must park first and walk with your bags to the hotel, but sadly there was no indication of this in communications...

I really liked our apartment (number 8). It is spacious and has 2 bathrooms and a living area. It was clean and very nicely decorated. We were on the 3rd floor which was not a problem for us to walk up but the stairs are old and a little awkward as you would expect in an old building. They could use a little more light in the shower and new shower heads that don't blast you as much but those are minor complaints and were not a problem. The AC worked well and we were happy to have it overnight after being out in the heat. The location is ideal in the pedestrian district close to everything. Recently booked Ortigia Boutique Apartments in Sicily……The place was in an appalling state. This property did not disclose that there was mould in the shower or that the shower fittings were dirty and broken or that there were suspect stains on the couch or that there was a sewerage smell in the bathroom, or that if you are over 5’ you will hit your head getting into bed which by the way is a mattress sitting on wooden blocks….none of this was disclosed in the property profile.
