Ristorante Giove — Restaurant in Syracuse

Words can’t fully capture how special this place is.

This was hands down one of the most memorable and heartwarming dining experiences I’ve ever had — not just in Ortigia, but anywhere. Tucked away from the touristy areas, this authentic Sicilian gem delivered everything we were hoping for and so much more.

We were welcomed with the warmest hospitality — a sweet older Sicilian woman greeted us with a radiant smile that made us feel instantly at home. The chef himself came out to say hello, and I was offered the fresh catch of the day, brought out on a platter so I could choose exactly which fish I wanted. Truly sea-to-plate in the best possible way.

The food was exquisite! Wow... what a special restaurant!

Giovanni and his staff took incredible care of my girlfriend and I. We were lucky enough to be the only customers at the time of service. Even with the language barrier and my broken Italian, the chef made an effort to explain ingredients and tell us cultural origin of the dishes we chose.

The level of hospitality shown to us was remarkable. Very grateful, considering we wandered in with no reservation.

Das Ristorante Giove liegt ziemlich versteckt in einer winzigen Gasse, die treppenartig nach oben führt und auf deren Stufen sich die äußeren Tische des Lokals befinden. Aufgrund seiner Lage ist das Giove nicht mit Touristen überflutet. Ich hatte mich spontan zum Mittagessen entschieden und wurde von der mutmaßlichen Wirtsgattin sehr herzlich empfangen.

Die Ausstattung ist einfach; leider gab es draußen keine Stoffservietten (Coperto 2,00 €). Zu den von mir bestellten Getränken (offener Weißwein, 8,00 € für 0,5l, Mineralwasser 2,50 € für 1,0l) gibt es nichts Besonderes zu berichten. Die umfangreiche Karte lässt keine Wünsche offen. Als Antipasto hatte ich mich für die Meeresfrüchte entschieden (12,00 €), die zwar in relativ viel Öl angewärmt, aber sehr schmackhaft waren. Auch die Spaghetti mit Venusmuscheln (10,00 €) waren einwandfrei. Ebenso die im Ganzen gegrillte Dorade (22,50 €), die ich allerdings einen Augenblick früher vom Rost genommen hätte. Zum Nachtisch gab es einen typisch sizilianischen Cannolo (3,00 €) – sehr lecker! Beendet habe ich das Menü wie immer mit einem Caffè und einem Grappa (zusammen 6,00 €).

Das Ristorante Giove bietet eine unspektakuläre und ehrliche Küche mit den typischen regionalen Gerichten und frischen Zutaten zu ortsüblichen Preisen. Das, was wir in Deutschland als „Service“ bezeichnen, erlebt man in Italien als wahre Gastfreundschaft. Das gilt im Besonderen auch für Sizilien und das Ristorante Giove.

Vielleicht ist nicht alles perfekt, aber ich habe mich sehr wohl gefühlt und dabei gut gegessen. Deshalb wohlwollenden...
