The Modernist Bistrò — Restaurant in Trieste

Has all the ambience, professionalism and mouth-watering fusion food of a high-class restaurant, at a price point I still struggle to believe. If you want an excellent dining experience, going here is just too obvious. You can order either individual dishes (€10-15, completely reasonable sizes) or your choice of two sampling menus (€28-36, a shockingly large variety of only very slightly smaller platters). Two of us shared the bigger menu, and we were in heaven. The ceviche - served on ice - was truly brilliant, the beef was amazingly juicy and tender, the teriyaki salmon was brilliantly rare inside and seared outside, and they were even okay with changing one of the dishes for us when we asked (the menu had a different dessert, but we just had to try the matcha tiramisu). Drinks were also fantastic. We couldn't help but go there again for lunch the next day, and will definitely come again if we're ever in Trieste in the future. Only minus: The music was occasionally very slightly loud, and I am not sure the table booking here on Google works? (But they still seated us...

service is trash, there is one waiter that walks like he needs to go to the toilet reaaal bad. the food is horrible, if i go to a nearby kebab place and eat from the floor it is still going to taste better. i am utterly disappointed. pasta didnt even taste like italian pasta, just plain undercooked macaroni mixed in cheap tasting sauce. anyone at home could make a better pasta. sushi tasted weird too. i asked for sushi sticks and the waiter said ok, i waited for a long time and he still didnt bring them at all, had to eat sushi with bare hands/fork. and i ordered a menu of the day, they didnt bring two dishes from there, had to remind the waiter that im waiting and it took them quite a long time to serve the rest of the food. service is really slow even though it wasnt a lot of people dining.

Qualcuno ha voglia di lavorare al bar del Modernist?

Oggi sono venuta qui a lavorare con il mio portatile. Dal loro sito dicono di ospitare anche clienti che hanno questa esigenza (e alla hall poco prima mi hanno confermato che è possibile ordinando qualcosa).

Per oltre un'ora e mezza nessuno si è preoccupato di me, nessuno ha controllato il mio tavolo che si trova dalla parte della hall dell'albergo (ma che fa parte del servizio bar). Questo nonostante mi sia affacciata e sventolata piú volte (e mi vedevano tutti, anche dalla hall e pure una signora del servizio pulizie che è passata piú volte a pulire).

Dopo un'ora e mezza sono arrivati dei turisti (austriaci o tedeschi) e a loro hanno preso quasi subito l'ordinazione. Quando è tornato il cameriere del nuovo turno con l'ordinazione, alla mia richiesta si è giustificato che lui "è appena arrivato". Peccato che se vedi un'altra persona su un'altro tavolo ti preoccuperai di ordinare. No?!

Le hall di un albergo non sono un posto dove lasciare incustoditi temporaneamente beni preziosi quindi non potevo assentarmi a lungo con il pc incustodito... Mai visto un servizio bar cosí inefficiente, prima volta che mi capita una cosa del genere e comunque in qualsiasi bar con servizio, ognitanto vanno controllate tutte le zone dove si eroga quel servizio.

Forse, e dico forse, sarebbe meglio: A) controllare meglio il metodo di lavoro dei camerieri del bar, B) non ragionare tra dipendenti dello stesso hotel a compartimenti stagni. Se tizia della hall vede che caia del bar non si sta accorgendo del cliente, la avvisa. Il lavoro di squadra dov'è? C) evitare di pubblicizzare servizi che poi vengono erogati male. Questo perché poco prima che mi confermassero di poter usare il pc ai tavoli (dalla hall) ero passata anche al bar e la cameriera mi ha detto che oggi è il 31/12 e c'è troppo movimento per lavorare. Mi ha dato un NO categorico per oggi.

Che dire? Spero che le mie critiche costruttive aiutino chi di dovere a confrontarsi con i propri dipendenti e rimediare (soprattutto quelli presenti a ora pranzo del 31 dicembre)

Da parte mia, se tornerò durante le feste a Trieste, valuterò altre alternative, in posti dove la gente ha voglia...
