Eppinger Caffè — Restaurant in Trieste

I went here after wandering around Trieste. It was close to my hotel and I was exhausted. I ordered a slice of Pizza, a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and a tiramisu, because why not, I'm in Italy and I'm going to try all the Italian things! In America, we don't have pizza like this. I have been to a million craft pizza places and I have NEVER had a slice like this. The crust was thick, yet light and fluffy, but perfectly crisp. The cheese and vegetables were so fresh. An older waitress with dark hair and glasses was impolite because we didn’t speak Italian. We waited for more than half an hour and she didn't serve us, nor did she clean our table (the others were served in the meantime). The toilet was very dirty and you can’t lock yourself. I was talking to an Italian guy from Trieste later and he confirmed that the staff in Eppinger are impolite...

Viaggio molto spesso per lavoro, ma un evento del genere non mi era mai ma mai capitato in 10 anni di lavoro. Mi reco alle ore 14.30 per pranzare, ma per precauzione chiedo se è ancora possibile vista l’ora. Dal bar una signora ricciolina mi risponde di Sì e di accomodarmi al piano di sopra. Così faccio, mi siedo e attendo. Arriva il cameriere e mi dice che non si può più pranzare dal menu cucina perché è chiusa e tra l’altro lo chef non sta bene e fanno solo tramezzini e toast, dispiaciuta rispondo va bene e chiedo la gentilezza di vedere le proposte dal menu. Il cameriere me lo porta e ordino subito. Mi arriva il toast con ingrediente mancante. E vabbè fino a qui tutto bene. Arriva un altro tavolo di 4 persone che si accomodano e ordinano piatti caldi dalla cucina. Lo chef sarà resuscitato nel frattempo. Beh se questa è la serietà con cui lavorate, complimenti!
