Gran Caffè Margherita — Restaurant in Unione dei comuni della Versilia

Very average restaurant.

Service: After several staff failed to help us get seated (even though there was plenty of space) we finally got a table in the garden. Every time we asked any of the staff for anything they said they would get their colleague to help us , but nobody came and we had to ask several more times. The problem seems to be that every person has their own role, such as taking orders, cleaning tables, serving food, and they don't know how or don't want to do anything else. Besides that the restaurant might be to big to deliver good service.

Food: Not much to say here. The meat and cheese platter was ok. We didn't get bread and olive oil until we asked for it at least 4 times. The main courses we tried (risotto and dorade) were both very bland in flavour, and kind of...

I saw the review score of 4.1 and was a little unsure whether to take the risk, but after walking past this afternoon and seeing how nice it looked, I thought I’d give it a go. We were met by the maitre’d and were seated immediately. We had a seat alongside the pavement, but it was actually quite nice to people watch! Our waitress Alice was very attentive and spoke perfect English. The food was very good, between us we had the ravioli bolognaise, pomodoro and calzone. The deserts were also very good, I don’t think produced fresh on site (for the frozen desserts) but that didn’t matter. What a fantastic place to dine in. We have been on a family vacation and we have tried a few places around here until we found this place. Created inside the library as a cafe and restaurant looks like a very smart idea. The atmosphere is very nice and the food is amazing. The prices are similar to other places around but the choices are far better. The place has plenty of waitresses and service is excellent. I really recommend this place. Don't lose the opportunity if you are in Viareggio and not to go there for, coffee, cake, pizza or a full course.
