We have never felt so discriminated in our lives. We called to make a booking and said that we are two adults and two children. There was no objection so made our way there and were all very hungry. Our children are 2,5 and 4 years old and we frequent many restaurants regularly ( also very good ones ) as my husband and I are food lovers and gourmands. We arrived at the restaurant at 7.30pm just when the kitchen opened and we’re the first guests. We were met with the nastiest looks and unfriendly welcome once they saw our children. They have us the ugliest table right by the door where every single guest would have walked by us. I objected and said I prefer a nicer table. That’s when the attitude kicked in. Alllll waiters and the owner were so arrogant and mean. Giving us cold stares and Signalling that we are not welcome. I chose a nice table at window and when I noticed the hostility, I asked the head waiter if children were welcome in this restaurant upon which he replied : only if they behave ! I told him our children are excellent restaurant goers and we also have a great activity bag with us , however told him they are in the end of the day children ! We almost left as one could sense the arrogance and nasty gazes cast towards us. But because it was late for our children and we were all hungry and we still had a long journey back to Switzerland, we decided to stay. We ordered water which they brought after 10 minutes and just firmly placed it on table ( no pouring , which is expected in such a place ) then they came to take our order heatedly before our water even arrived and we said we need another moment. Upon which the very arrogant waiter sighed and stormed off ! We finally made our orders and frankly the food was ok ! A bit pretentious and overrated. Pastas were very nice. Everything else really nothing special. Trying to hard is what I would say. The beauty of Italian cuisine is the refined simplicity and honesty of the food. This was somewhat distorted. We also felt very uns easy throughout our meal which the kids picked up on and obviously behaved their worst ever. We are so proud of our children being amazing in restaurants and loving to try nice food. Tonight the expectations of our rude and arrogant hosts were met completely with our kids acting out. This is the very first time we have ever experienced something like this in Italy. We live coming here and we come often. We speak the language and love the people and the culture. We also love how welcome children always are. This was fist time where our kids didn’t even get a smile. Not from anyone. The hosts as well as the clientele were So snobbish and arrogant it’s ridiculous. We have travelled the world and dined at some of the finest restaurants and hotels. Yes even with our children. But we never came across something like this . The final conclusion I would like to make is that it is dangerous for a place that prides itself as a century old trattoria to treat they guests this way. It so happens that my husband is a renowned gourmand food critic, however very humble and simple. It’s sad that they have earned themselves such a bad review. This goes to show that one should never judge a book by its cover. And when it comes to food, it’s also the energy and heart that serves it that truly matters. Finally a place that doesn’t explicitly state that children are not welcome, has no right to treat anyone this way. Who is not kind to children and their parents is in our eyes plainly and evil. If u want a fake, stuffy ambience with pretentious food. Go here. And btw there was only one kind of waiter who smiled and was friendly ( I think because he was deeply ashamed for how we were treated ) didn’t register his name but he was lovely and we are grateful at least he had a warm and kind interaction with us as one would expect in beautiful ,...
Read moreThis is an exceptional, distinctive and exquisite restaurant. We were greeted and welcomed in a warm atmosphere, nice jazz music playing in the background, decor is interesting and balmy. Our waiter, Mr. Massimo, was a well informed and very well trained professional: he gave us great tips, a explanations about the region, the food and the wine - it changes everything when someone helps, is friendly and is willing to accommodate the guests. The food is prime top quality: we had the liguine and pulpo, ribolitta soup and some baked vegetables. The homemade dark bread is just perfect. The exclusive wine of the restaurant is a regional gem: both the white and the rouge are authentic master pieces. Finished with coffee and a Pavlova. The best evening we could wish for. We'll be...
Read moreFor refined and at the same time honest-to-God Tuscan fare, specialising in seafood but excellent all round, this is a restaurant not to be missed. They even make their own focaccia - and it's a long while since I had tasted its like!
Apart from the cuisine, the surroundings put you immediately at ease. The host and personnel are consummately adroit and warm, anything but aloof. Finally you can sustain a decent, prolonged conversation with friends without danger of being drowned out by inappropriate background music. If only every restaurant...
