Da Ü Nico in galleria — Restaurant in Varazze

Off to a great start, but not quite there yet!

A very cosy and pleasant eatery, thanks to a great setting (in a small square along the central pedestrian street) and skilful young staff providing an attentive yet relaxed service. The short daily menu, written on a board, offers interesting dishes, and shows that these guys are trying to modernise ligurian cuisine often stuck in long unimaginative menus. However, flavours let them down a bit: parsley overpowers the octopus in the salad, and the clams in the scialatielli (pretty sure I was served linguine and not scialatielli btw). Desserts are average at best.

The vibe is awesome, so I hope the chef can become a bit braver and serve bolder flavours...

What a good surprise. Few dishes to pick from, changing often. Simple but well executed dishes, good portions and fresh ingredients. Service is young and friendly. The atmosphere is a nice laid back terrace, on a quiet square far from traffic.

One could see that they opened recently. The linguine with vongole were a tad too salty and the service had some hiccups, but I’m confident they’ll make up for it quickly. Also: stop putting sprinkles of parsley everywhere, we left the 90s behind.

I’ll be back and I’m going to recommend it to friends. My favourite spot so...

Il locale si trova in una piazzetta molto carina e accogliente. La mise en place è curata, con piatti davvero belli e ben disposti. Il personale di sala dà un’impronta familiare ed è sempre disponibile, il che rende l’esperienza piacevole. Il menù è semplice ma ben pensato, con piatti tipici liguri apprezzati. I prezzi sono in linea con la zona (ad esempio spaghetti alle vongole 21€), non eccessivi ma ci si aspetterebbe una porzione un po’ più generosa: 80 g di pasta sono pochi, almeno 150 g renderebbero più soddisfatti sia i clienti che il ristoratore. Le cozze sono buone, ma sarebbe meglio servirle con un cucchiaio e accompagnarle con crostini di pane aromatizzati, anziché il pane del tavolo, non particolarmente riuscito. Nota molto negativa la carta dei vini: poche cantine, qualità media e bottiglie a 28/30€, che non giustificano del tutto il prezzo. Nel complesso si mangia bene, con qualche dettaglio da rivedere per rendere l’esperienza...
