Agli Alboretti Venice Restaurant — Restaurant in Venice

We ended up at this restaurant by accident because the place we originally planned to eat at was full. We chose Agli Alboretti based on its rating.

The place is okay—nice garden. However, the food was disappointing:

Zuppetta di pesce – Very small portion. From my experience (7–8 similar orders across Venice), the usual portion is at least twice as big. The soup clearly wasn’t freshly made that day—it tasted off and included what seemed to be frozen mixed seafood.

Spaghetti Gamberi – Again, the portion was about half the size you’d get elsewhere in Venice, not to mention in Murano or Burano. The taste was mediocre. It had the same small peeled shrimp as the soup.

The service was awful. First, the waiter forgot one dish for a member of our group. When we asked, he said it would take 5–10 minutes. It wasn’t served in that time. When we followed up again, he blamed us, saying we didn’t order the fish properly. He was rude and even took away the cutlery of the person still waiting for his meal.

We asked to speak to the administrator—no response. On our way out, we tried to share our feedback with the manager or chef. Same reaction—none. So we paid and left.

Summary: I recommend only visiting restaurants owned and operated by locals—they value their reputation and take better care of...

OK. Bottom line - we don't understand the high rating at Agli Alboretti as it didn't align with our experience at all. Plus points are location and the fact you can reserve a table online, very close to the Accademia Bridge but really, don't knock yourself out making the effort to eat here. The service is efficient, charmless and transactional (contrasting it to the previous three nights we've eaten in Venice). The food menu is short. Good wine list. Food is well presented but mediocre and overpriced. Good ravioli to start but main courses were disappointing - admittedly we didn't opt for the fish but is that really an excuse? We had the fegata with polenta and the beef with rosemary. The liver reminded me of school dinner food and the sliced beef wasn't at all tender. We decided not to have dessert/coffee as we wanted to cut our losses. The ambience is dull and doesn't encourage one to linger. Overall, this was our final 'pièce de résistance' dinner in beautiful Venice, but it, sadly, failed to hit the spot. We will return to Venice but not to...

We came here on a very hot Sunday at lunchtime after a quick look at Google and because of the good reviews. We were greeted very warmly and the restaurant was pleasantly cool thanks to the air conditioning. The decor is traditionally Italian and the restaurant and restrooms are very clean. But now to the most important thing: the food! Since we had a 9-year-old boy with us, they were kind enough to prepare extra pasta pomodori for him, even though it wasn't on the menu. We adults had ravioli with sage and tagliolini with fresh tuna. In short, the food was amazing! Unfortunately, in Venice you often find average food at high prices, but here the quality and taste were just right. The service was also very attentive, friendly and grateful for our kind words and polite manner. From the waiter to the chef, it was a very pleasant experience.
