Arriving at the beautiful Accademia Bridge, one cannot fail to admire the beautiful Franchetti Palace. Its architecture is magnificent. The Palazzo Cavalli-Franchetti is an impressive neo-Gothic building at the foot of the Accademia bridge and extends towards Campo Santo Stefano. How it is located right next to the Grand Canal with its beauty and elegance arouses admiration in us. The palace was built in 1565, and by the mid-19th century it was used as the residence of many famous Venetian families such as, Marcello, Gussoni and Cavalli. After the Napoleonic Wars, the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy gained the territories of Venice. Thus in 1840 the young Archduke of Austria Frederick Ferdinand was given the estate to manage and began a complex modernization project. Palazzo Cavalli-Gussoni thus divided among his successors and embarked on a complex modernization project aimed at provide a more prominent Habsburg presence here along the Grand Canal. After the sudden death of the Austrian Archduke in 1847, the palazzo was bought by Prince Henry, Count of Chambord, who was disputedly King of France from 2 to 9 August 1830 as Henry V, although he was never officially proclaimed as such. Afterwards, he was the Legitimist pretender to the throne of France. He hired the famous master Giambattista Meduna for the restoration work of the Palace. In 1878 Baron Raimondo Franchetti, who had married Sarah Luisa de Rothschild, daughter of Anselm Salomon Rothschild of the Vienna Rothschilds, bought the palazzo and commissioned further works by architect Camillo Boito, who constructed the beautiful grand staircase. In September 1922 it was sold to the Istituto Federale di Credito per il Risorgimento delle Venezie by Franchetti's widow.

Only really reviewing the cafeteria, did not get to really see inside the building. They have a cafeteria with €15 all you can eat buffet. There were a variety of Italian dishes with a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Drinks, including water and desserts are not included. In terms of value, this buffet was excellent. However, the food did get cold but there was a microwave to heat up your food. It wasn't very extravagant but you can't beat the price and variety! Italian meals...

The architecture and the decor are absolutely breathtaking. It is an effect of many renovations, predominantly some nineteenth-century works which gave it the phantasmagoric, historical look it has today. The exhibitions are also fantastic! The curators make sure the display is clear and engaging. Definitely worth a visit, you won’t be disappointed! Even if you are not intending to buy an exhibition ticket, you can lurk around to see the architecture. The staircase rivals this of the Palazzo Ducale 😉

Palazzo Cavalli, overlooking Venice’s Grand Canal, is a beautiful Renaissance palace known for its elegant architecture and stunning views. It’s often used as a wedding venue due to its romantic setting and proximity to landmarks like the Rialto Bridge. The palace features classic Venetian design elements, including arched windows and decorative balconies. While not open to the public as a museum, it’s a beautiful spot to admire from the canal or during a gondola ride.
