Alle Zattere: A National Disgrace Disguised as a Restaurant
If culinary war crimes were a thing, Alle Zattere would be on trial at The Hague. Calling this place an Italian restaurant is like calling a gas station sushi aisle a Michelin-starred experience. It’s not just bad — it’s an insult to food, to Italy, to common sense, and to anyone who’s ever tasted actual flavor.
The risotto? I've had more flavor in a wet paper towel. It came to the table looking like it had already given up on life. Watery, limp, and offensively bland, it tasted like someone boiled rice in regret and garnished it with indifference. If this dish were a person, it would apologize to you for wasting your time.
And the staff? Oh, the staff. I wasn’t greeted — I was evaluated. Like I accidentally walked onto the wrong movie set. Judged not for my behavior or attitude, but for existing while American and not playing the “guess the native tongue” game. Look, I don’t need you to serenade me with opera, but basic decency doesn’t require subtitles.
Let me be clear: I speak fluent good manners and expect basic hospitality — neither of which made an appearance at this embarrassment of an eatery. If you’re hoping for Italian charm, passion, or even food made by Italians — this is not the place. This is where joy goes to die and risotto goes to drown.
Alle Zattere isn’t just a bad restaurant — it’s a culinary black hole. It sucks the soul out of Italian cuisine and spits out overpriced mediocrity with a smug attitude. Avoid this place like a pigeon with pink eye. You want real Venice? Walk the...

Long answer: We didn't do much research before going into this restaurant, but we were drawn by the picturesque location and the nice balcony over the water. Unfortunately, like many restaurants in such places, this one was a tourist trap. The waiter wasn't even trying to be nice or to make our experience feel unique. He just tossed the menus and later the check with almost an angry look on his face. But I will excuse him as he could have had a bad day. However, I will not forgive the food that they gave us. First off, it came surprisingly quickly after just 5 minutes of waiting. Everyone knows that good, fresh food takes time to prepare, so that was a bad sign. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs, and they were not fresh, plus way too overfried. I was able to eat two of them, so they weren't that terrible, but that wasn't something I was enjoying. The sauce wasn't any better; it tasted like a tomato concentrate thrown on bland pasta. At first, the prices didn't surprise us, but after we tasted the food, we regretted spending that much money there. For 3 pasta dishes plus water, beer, and Aperol spritz, we paid 100 euros. Maybe that's a lot of me, but I would never pay this kind of money for this quality of food.
Final thought: Wouldn't recommend it to anyone if you want to eat some good pasta, that's definitely...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I really enjoyed our dinner here. She had the Hawaiian Pizza and I had the Viennese Pizza and both were amazing. The only thing I would critique is our waiter’s attitude was lukewarm at best; not rude but also not the most welcoming. It was also clear that he knew English but chose to only speak to us in Italian. This is fine, I understand some Spanish and was somewhat able to make out what he was saying, and maybe he wasn’t super confident in his own English skills, but I couldn’t help but feel like he just couldn’t be bothered to accommodate. Not saying this was the case, but it’s just how it came across. We stayed until almost 10pm when they started putting alway all the outdoor furniture, even though Google says they close at 11pm. Not sure if Google is wrong, or if they just decided to close up early that night, or if they kept the inside seating open until 11pm. Also, beers were 7€ which seems excessive, and there’s a 2.50€ “coperto” charge for each customer which also seems like a scam since he didn’t do a whole lot for us, but I understand most, if not all, restaurants do this in Venice, and this might be lower than average. I know I might be making it sound like this place was terrible, but it really wasn’t, I’m just nitpicking a bit. Overall, it was a good first restaurant to start out our three day stay here and if anything, the food...
