We had bigger expectations based on reviews, but this is just an ordinary restaurant with a few bad practises. Beef carpaccio had a smell and taste of salmon, probably because they cut the salmon on the same deli meat cutter machine without cleaning in between different foods, 1 liter of regular tap water (I repeat, tap, not bottled) is 5€, and picanha tagliata is not made out of picanha (absolutely 0 fat content on the cut) but it's charged quite pricy. Medium rare is actually medium and a bit dry. If you don't mind things like these, it's an OK place to eat with a nice terrace and good aperitivos. In addition, you have a sticker that says indoors is air conditioned, which in fact is not true.
This review has been downgraded to 2 stars, since the staff was not happy with 3* review, and has contacted me via Facebook personally to bump up my review to 5* in exchange for a free meal. I don't think that's fair to other people who are trying to find a decent place to eat, and it makes me wonder how many 5* are actually real and how many are promised a free meal.
My advice to the staff would be to read the critics and fix them in house, and not beg for better grades...
Read moreGreat food but TOURISTS BEWARE!
Upon arrival we were sat down and handed two menus in Italian with english translations beneath each dish (matching the menu written outside in the window). A different waitress then took away the menus and replaced them with an 'English' menu that 'conveniently' had higher prices (around 2-3 euros extra for the same dish). When confronting the waitress about this we were told that these were the correct prices, as the Italian menu was "old and out of date".
We noticed that everyone else seemed to be ordering from the Italian menu, but regardless we ordered the Angus burger for 13 euros as it was the only dish that was cheaper than on the Italian menu. Finally when the bill came we had been charged the higher price off the Italian menu that we didn't order from, which after confronting staff was later changed to the correct price.
We regret to leave this restaurant with a poor rating as the food really was delicious and good value, however this unethical practice of tricking tourists should not be allowed to continue! We hope in the future that management will regard an ethical reputation towards their customers, over an extra...
Read moreListen. Dining at Bakaro was a spiritual experience for my friend and I. We arrived in Venice today and spent the evening bumping around and checking out menus. The vibes coming from this restaurant were totally and completely undeniable. We checked the menu and decided to give it a go. The menu looked phenomenal which made decisions difficult. I was between a few options and our server, Vlad told me hands down seafood lasagna was the way to go. In fact, he went as far as to say it would be the best lasagna I had ever had in my life. Also notable that it is a traditional Venetian dish (news to me!). I took the bait. Oh my gosh. My life has changed. This seafood lasagna was like nothing I have ever experienced. I did not want to keep taking bites because i wanted it to last until the end of eternity. 1 billion Michelin Stars. Unfortunately i am not one to take photos of food so you'll just have to trust me the presentation was unmatched. From the food to the wine to the exquisite service, this has been our best experience in Italy to date. I beg of you, please dine here, and for the love of god and all that is holy, please order the...
