I’m generally a positive person and I try to keep my reviews the same, but I have to be honest. We stumbled upon Trattoria Pizzeria Antico Capon after a really long day of exploring Venice. Since we were staying in the Dorsoduro area, this restaurant seemed convenient and had plenty of seating. Let’s start with positives: The service here is top notch. The servers are extremely attentive and very kind. The quality of the food also seemed good, although the guys in our group were still hungry after the meal (even though we also had appetizers and drinks). The less positive: During our two weeks in Italy, we visited Milan, Lake Como, the Dolomites, Venice, Parma, La Spezia, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Naples and the Amalfi coast. After visiting ALL of those locations, we determined that this meal was the meal that we felt most taken advantage of. While the food was ‘good’, the prices did not compare to the quality and portions of the food. While we did have more expensive meals in Italy, they included items like filet. This meal was just two appetizers, pasta and drinks and it was WAY overpriced. The worst part or maybe the best part was that after the meal, our guys had to order a pizza from Pizza al Volo, which is immediately across the square. I guess this was the best part because that pizza from Pizza al Volo was a 10 out of 10. This restaurant might be fine if you’re willing to pay high prices, but I would recommend a Pizza al Volo, a drink from Bakaro, and a lovely park bench as a wonderful alternative.
UPDATE: I originally left this location a three star review, but I'm sad to change it to a two star review after the response to my review. :o( I felt like I was really honest... the food was good/fine, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service was top notch, but none of our group found the food to be memorable. While I absolutely understand the logistics of transporting food within Venice and it makes sense that this would be more expensive... the food was still not in line (even in Venice) with the quality/flavor. I still stand by my original statement that Pizza al Volo is THE place to go in Dorsoduro. While the response to my review has tried to bully others with legal laws, I would counter with the fact that the pizza from Pizza al Volo would even be amazing eating it in bed. The good news is that you get to choose. I made 99% of my choices in Italy based on real reviews, so I appreciate authenticity. Pick your places wisely. Trattoria Pizzeria Antico Capon... thank you for your response and best wishes for...
Read moreYou’ll want to AVOID this place — it’s a less obvious TOURIST trap with lipstick on a pig, and a very clear example of what POOR management and a lack of passion looks like. We were hopeful when being ushered inside this would be a positive experience. That quickly, (or slowly) was not the case. Upon taking our order, the server disappeared. We received bread, and had to ask for plates in order to eat it. After that, he decided to spend his time closing up the store early. So did everyone else there. Meanwhile, we (and other customers) spent over an hour waiting for our main course. No one checked on us, but plenty walked on by. Halfway in, a manager should have come to apologize for the wait. We had to literally get up and ask a different server about our food, who said “it’s coming” with a thumbs up, and it took another 15 mins. What finally came (mine was the shrimp and zucchini pasta) was tiny pieces of cut up shrimp in a watery pasta. My partner’s chicken alfredo consisted of freezer burned chicken. Unhappy with our whole experience, we asked for a manager to which we were told the owner didn’t speak our language well, so he’d have to translate on our behalf. That’s totally fine. He spoke to her and we were offered a free dessert item. Yeah… not only was this a poor way to make up for the entire experience we had, we’d lost our appetite for anything there at this point and asked they discount our bill. What later came was yet another server (ours must’ve gone home early at this point) who showed us a bill discounted at 10% off (a whopping $6). Sadly enough, that still included the cover charge too. At this point I ask for the owner and she literally laughs at me and asks what I want. It was at this moment I quickly realized this (non-italiano) owner was running this place purely to make a profit and didn’t care about the customer experience. I didn’t want to have to have the poor guy translate how to run a restaurant for me so I just asked for them to remove the freezer-burned chicken pasta (it was admittedly from the freezer, btw) from the bill so we could go. Don’t make the same mistake we did — AVOID this one and go somewhere out of the tourist squares and have a true...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Trattoria Pizzeria Antico Capon, and I can confidently say it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made us feel right at home. The decor is charming, with a perfect blend of rustic and modern touches that capture the essence of an authentic Italian trattoria. The service was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. Our server was more than happy to guide us through the menu, offering excellent recommendations that did not disappoint. The food was simply exquisite. We started with the bruschetta, which was fresh and flavorful, and the main course was nothing short of perfection. The pizzas were cooked to perfection with a thin, crispy crust and generous, high-quality toppings that burst with flavor. What truly sets Antico Capon apart is their dedication to authenticity. Every bite transported us straight to Italy, and you can tell that the ingredients are fresh and the dishes are made with love and care. The wine selection is also impressive, with a range of options that perfectly complement the menu. To top it all off, the dessert was heavenly—particularly the tiramisu, which was light, creamy, and the perfect end to a wonderful meal. Overall, Trattoria Pizzeria Antico Capon exceeded all my expectations. Whether you’re looking for a casual dinner with friends or a special occasion meal, this place is a must-visit. I can’t wait to return and try more of their amazing dishes. Highly recommended! Also I am from the United States and that was no problem...
