Hotel Antico Capon, Venice — Hotel in Venice

This was the absolute worst experience of our life in any hotel. We booked directly in person at the hotel for one night then the next day we rechecked in and paid again directly To the hotel. We took showers got ready in the room and headed out around 6:30pm.. We arrived back at our hotel room at 2am after a beautiful evening.. - to find our belongings removed - and to find complete STRANGERS sleeping inside the room , when we opened the door! Our stuff nowhere to be found, no staff, completely stranded on the street at 2am. No one to answer the phone, no person on property to help, they completely decided to resell our room for I don’t know what reason and put us on the street with no phone call or warning!!! This is the most horrific experience you can ever imagine.. was a massive surprise for us and the other threee guests inside the room sleeping when we opened the door with the key to our room.. the people working there are completely incompetent.. my husband has traveled 96 countries and never seen anything like this… or been treated this way! The have completely refused to refund us for this disaster in the middle of the night.. Finally someone showed up an hour later and took us FAR away to another property after much stress thinking we were robbed potentially.

So there were available rooms and they just decided to resell ours and not put new guests in the other open rooms?!?’ Unacceptable do NOT stay here!!!!!! Also was bitten by bugs like crazy on the other property!! Beware!!!!!! oh and the owner threatened my husband for requesting a refund.. will be reporting them to authorities! My husband is Italian citizen.

Mind you they claim they messaged us on booking.. we never used booking we booked directly at the hotel. That’s their excuse and it’s a complete lie. Take...

This review is for the restaurant, which they should separate from the hotel listing. My friends and I visited this restaurant on a whim later in the evening. We wanted desert, one entree, and some drinks while we chatted. Upon sharing this with the waiter (balding/short hair older man) he told me "You are at a restaurant, and you want to just get desert?" I said "Yes, is that a problem?" and he proceeded to scoff at me and mutter under his breath, and begrudgingly took our order. Furthermore, this is not a fine dining establishment, and there were plenty of empty tables, so I would have thought that taking my money in whatever capacity would suffice for this business. The absolute abhorrent attitude I received from the wait staff the remainder of the evening really soured the mood from a good day. In addition, the quality of the pasta my friend received was below par for Italian standards. There was far too much sauce which was bland overall, and they even provided dried parmesan flakes that looked straight out of a Kraft container. Probably the least authentic food we had on the trip so far. Additionally, they charge us a cover charge here, which was the only time in Venice that I saw that on my bill. Just a terrible experience, and with the quantity of options in the city you can do much better just by throwing a dart at Google maps....

This hotel was really really nice!! When I arrived I was welcomed by the adorable dog, Spot. The owner, Elia, was extremely nice and sociable. The bed was very comfortable and I got a good nights sleep. The bathroom facilities were also very clean! Before I booked a room here I was a bit skeptical because I had read a few other reviews of this hotel saying that the bathroom facilities were not that clean. However, I had a very pleasant experience here. The facilities were extremely clean (many of the hostels I've stayed at before were not as clean) and I can not say that there was anything to point a finger at. Met two very nice girls here which I shared a room with. Moreover, the location was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Very hard to find a batter located hotel/hostel!! The train station as well as bus station are a short walk away (quite easy to find, but you should download an offline map beforehand). I highly recommend this hostel for anyone visiting Venice! I will definitely stay at Antico Capon when coming...
