Birraria La Corte checks all the boxes for a magical dining experience in Venice. One can not beat the views of the court of San Palo while sitting in the outside area, and Venice provided the perfectly cool and serene evebing to people watch and admire the simple beauty of this area. The staff were wonderful and detected immediately that we were American and spoke English to our benefit, which we appreciated. They were attentive but not overbearing and provided several wait staff attended to us throughout the evening. We did not have reservations, but if you show up for first seating when they open, chances are very good that they will find room for you! By 8 pm, the place was bustling, so we recommend getting there early or reserving a table. Excellent craft brews (hence the name) and a wonderful selection of spirits to tantalize your palate. The gin fizz was wonderfully refreshing, and my wife enjoyed the wide range of craft beers on tap. The meal was spaced out perfectly, and although we certainly could have shared menu items, we could help but order for ourselves! The ham and cheese croquettes were melt in your mouth delicious! My favorite dish of the evening was the risotto with peas and cream sauce. It was just simply amazing! The pizza was a perfectly cooked crust with just the right amount of chewy goodness, and I would recommend ordering something that is outside your comfort zone! My pizza had yellow tomatoes, cream pesto with pine nuts, and beef carpaccio, and it was delectable! So, if you are in Venice, definitely worth the time to sit down at the Birraria and enjoy a...
Read moreThe pizza was 10/10, i can't fault it at all, tasted great! The low rating is because from the second you arrive, it is very obvious that the main guy who is at the door and in charge of seating everyone does not like tourists/foreigners. There is no fairness in the system of queuing, if you have waited patiently for half an hour, and then a local person arrives after you, this staff member will seat them first (and this is without anyone having any reservations). He did this multiple times despite us arriving first and before many other people, the only difference was that we were tourists. I understand that Venice is suffering from over-tourism but to see this kind of discrimination up front is despicable.
He will also try to put you off by giving you false/long waiting times to make you try and go away - we called his bluff and said we would wait anyways.
The problem seems to be isolated with this one employee as the rest of the staff were very friendly. I do hope the owner of this establishment does not share the same views.
Edit - having read other reviews, it seems to be a common theme with this restaurant - if you are not Italian - you will not be welcomed or won't receive...
Read moreNon-Italians not welcome. We came on a non-busy night in January. Walked up to the host and asked (in Italian) for a table. He said it would be a 15-20 minute wait and that we could get a drink and wait, which we did. After sitting for almost an hour and watching group after group of locals without reservations be seated ahead of us, along with several other couples who came in after us, we finally asked when we would be seated. We were told “two minutes, not even, one minute.” After sitting for another 15 minutes, now 15 minutes before the kitchen closed, we approached the host again. He rolled his eyes and waved his hand indicating we should follow him. He just pointed at a table, walked away and returned a minute later to drop menus abruptly on the table without saying a word. He went out of his way to never actually look at us. No pizza could be worth this level of attitude so we left. Upon saying that we were leaving because we waited over an hour and the staff was rude, all we got in response was, “Okay.” So this wasn’t an accident. They didn’t want us there and they don’t want you either. There are plenty of wonderful places to eat in Venice so don’t waste...
