We were in Venezia for vacation recently and tried to dine out of the main San Marco tourist area as much as possible to try to get the most unique Venice experience and La Colonna was an amazing find! For dinner in peak season, try to make a reservation as the restaurant is very small.
We arrived before our reservation time and were seated immediately inside and greeted warmly by the restaurant owner.
We ordered a bottle of wine to start (most under 20 Euros for a 75 ML bottle).
For appetizers we ordered the cheese with honey for 13 Euros, absolutely amazing! We also combined this with the local olive oil and fresh bread brought to the table to start as well.
For our second course we chose two pastas, the Penne Alla Amatriciana (I think it was around 12 Euros), and the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (I think it was around 12 Euros as well). Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation.
For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.)
The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. It truly was like you were dining at the home of the owner and is a must try if you...
Read moreThe location is where it’s at here. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with the food, quite the opposite actually. The food was freshly made, you can see the kitchen from outside, but the overall “authentic”flavour just wasn’t there.
The menu is quite extensive, which in my honest opinion is a bit of a telling tale of an establishment. In light of this metric, the food was as expected.
The service staff wasn’t overly friendly, but not abrupt or rude by any means. Pretentious is a good word to describe the experience.
The location is great if you’re looking for something away from the pedestrians along the canals, the 20 year old blasting music in his dingy, and overall trying to stay dry.
Lots of shade, there’s a cat that hangs around which is unique I suppose, and the quiet atmosphere is definitely the claim to fame here.
Probably wouldn’t return, but would recommend for those looking for a change of pace...
Read moreWe went here on Christmas night and they were open. This is definitely a hidden gem. I’m glad that we got lost and came across this restaurant. It’s a very friendly welcoming restaurant. My boyfriend and I went in and grabbed a table. The gentleman serving us was great ! He was fast and very attentive. We started with some carpaccio, bread, and a bottle of wine. This restaurant is very well priced and the portion sizes are pretty big. I ordered the breaded pork chop and my boyfriend ordered a pasta dish. All the wood was excellent. It was all cooked perfectly. It had a very cozy home atmosphere and it seemed to be more of a locals dinner spot. They certainly want you to feel relaxed and not rushed because it did take us awhile to get our check. Great...
