It was Thanksgiving Day and I was traveling alone in Italy so I wanted to find somewhere special and delicious to celebrate all that I am thankful for while solo. And I managed to find one of the best spots in all of Venice. Osteria Alla Frasca is cozy and intimate. Maybe not fancy, but elegantly humble. There are 5 tables for 2 (or seating for 10) inside, as well as a few more tables outside. It is tucked away on an out-of-the-way residential block, which adds to its charm and authenticity. It isn't hard to get to though, only a 2 minute walk from the F.Te Nove boat stop. It is on a corner with dim lighting and candles flickering on the tables. The host is happy to greet you and make conversation as well as advise on the menu (which is all in Italian). I knew I probably wanted the sea bass (€22) when I walked in, so there weren't a lot of decisions O had to make. I was told that eggplant would be replacing the normal mushrooms on the sea bass but I actually prefer that so I readily agreed. While waiting with some bread and a 1/2L of Prosecco (€10) I was able to chat a bit with the host and examine the posters of seafood on the wall. The wait was just about 15 minutes until my sea bass arrived piping hot and fried to a flaky golden crust. And it was everything I had hoped for. It had just the right amount of fried crunch to go with the melt in your mouth flesh full of flavor. It really was prepared to perfection. For dessert (because what American doesn't have dessert on Thanksgiving?), I went with my always-favorite, the tiramisu (€6). It was amazing as I'd hoped and was the perfect complement to the fine main course. After, I was suggested a shot of espresso (€2) which I agreed to because it goes so well with tiramisu. Again, just what I didn't realize I needed. Finally, I was surprised to learn that the espresso is accompanied by a complimentary glass of grappa - a strong grape based Italian brandy. I wasn't actually sure I'd be able to handle the grappa at this point, but he told me I'd be able to walk out into the brisk night without my jacket after, and sure enough he was right. 15 minutes later I walked out in great spirits and without wearing my jacket. If you're in Venice and searching for seafood, Osteria Alla Frasca is one I highly recommend.

A hidden gem in a quiet and nice neighbourhood. Great food, good service and a cosy atmosphere. Pros: Food is great, good service and not that expensive. Cons: Its located in a neighbourhood away from the main streets and its not cheap either. Due to great reviews we wanted to try this place too. Sadly our first attempt wasn't successful, since it was already fully booked. We made a reservation right away, for 2 days later, so we can still try it out. And glad we did. The menu isn't going to rock you away, because there isn't a long list of options. But the food tastes very good. The octopus was good textured, the fish was nicely grilled and the desserts was also tasty. Their tiramisu had some good and bad things. The part with the lady fingers was good, but since that is about 1/2 of the portion, the other half was just cream/mascarpone. The atmosphere was very nice. Very peaceful. Definitely a recommendation. Do make a reservation, because I guess they are usually fully booked.

This is a very unassuming and quaint neighborhood restaurant outside of the main touristy area. It is in a quiet little neighborhood square and is definitely worth the trek. We ordered the seafood appetizer along with two pastas for dinner. The seafood appetizer platter had shrimps, octopus, marinated, sardines, whipped cod, mantis shrimps, and a calamari. We enjoyed this platter quite a bit. The only feedback we have was with the octopus, some of the innards were left in the head which made this component of the dish a little bit on the fishy side. The seafood tagliatelle and shrimp zucchini gnocchi were homey and filling. The Rosemary panna cotta was our our favorite. Served with pistachio and black salt, these two components complimented the panna cotta very well. Overall, we would definitely dine here again If we visit Venice in the future.

Update 2023: Foods are still wonderful, please try Capriccio die orata, very delicate, the seasoning is really refreshing. And Panna Cotta! Definitely A Must in this restaurant (although quite expensive) but this is the best Panna Cotta I've ever tried, so milky but still lightly and with pistachio and salt on top -- such a balancing symphony in mouth. Warmly recommended! 2021 Great small restaurant, away from crowded streets, where you can enjoy a good meal. A little expensive but the food is really good and fresh. My Tagliatelle with seafood is amazing, well cooked and seasoned and portion is also perfect. Home made Tiramisu is quite expensive (7 💶!) but the taste is not that amazing... The waiters here are also very friendly. I would definitely visit here next time 🙂 but not ordering Tiramisu again ;D ( Corpeto 3 💶)

A neighborhood Venetian restaurant emphasizing fresh seafood. Nothing was astounding per se, but I’d recommend anyone in Venice to come here for quality food representative of local cuisine. (Menu changes daily, so what i enjoyed May not be on the menu in the future) The chef opts for a sweet flavor profile in the sea bream carpaccio, mixing honey with olive oil before topping it off with strawberries. This works well with sea bream, a fairly non potent fish with no aftertaste. It’s unique and executed well with additional touches of spice and salt. The tuna was grilled perfectly medium rare and its seasoning was spot on, while the olive oil tied the salad with the fish and potatoes. The fresh tomatoes were a great addition. Tiramisu was a classic. I loved the cream.

Possibly our new favourite restaurant in Venice! Absolutely stunning setting - a hidden courtyard away from the bustle. The menu was perfectly short and simple and clearly changes according to what’s fresh. This is a great sign in contrast to the wearied and lengthy menus translated into several languages you see all over Venice. The staff were incredibly friendly and had good knowledge of the menu. I had the Venetian seafood appetiser which was in an different league to most others I have tried, followed by the gnocchi, which was homemade and beautifully soft. A very special lunch, we will certainly return on future trips to Venice!
