We were wandering around in Guidecca (as you do when visiting a city), and while following our curiosity about a local art exhibition, we saw the signs for Ristorante Al Storico.
We decided to check it out, and what followed was a very pleasant surprise.
You have to climb steps to get to this place, so this might not be the most accessible place to eat. The lovely views overlook a boat yard and other islands in the city of Venice.
They were almost closing their afternoon lunch service when we arrived but were fortunate to be seated. We opted to sit inside because of the cold weather.
We had the BEST Tagliolini with Shrimps and Artichokes and the BEST Octopus Salad we have ever eaten!
Flavours were simple but deep. Textures were tender yet well cooked. This was seafood done perfectly, using simple ingredients.
The moral of the story is to follow your curiosity and your instinct when in Venice. You never know what surprising flavours...
