During our enchanting honeymoon getaway in Venice, our original restaurant plans were thwarted by the daunting queue outside a popular eatery. Serendipitously, we stumbled upon Trattoria Alla Scalla, and it turned out to be a divine stroke of luck. The culinary experience that followed was nothing short of exceptional, and the hospitality of the staff was truly remarkable.
As an avid food explorer during my travels, I eagerly dove into the local flavors of Venice. Our gastronomic journey began with the exquisite Spaghetti al nero di seppia, a dish featuring squid ink, which was a revelation in taste and texture. Meanwhile, my wife indulged in the Tagliatelle with Lobster, a choice she found equally delightful.
For our appetizers, I savored the delectable scallops, while my wife relished the mussels and clams. The quality and flavors were simply outstanding. We were so captivated by the menu that we couldn't resist adding a second main course, the grilled scampi, which proved to be yet another culinary triumph.
Our choice of wine, a Moscato, was an unexpected delight. Its sweetness was unparalleled, leaving an indelible impression on our palates.
The staff at Trattoria Alla Scalla were not just attentive but also added a touch of warmth and humor to our dining experience. They even took the time to capture a memorable photograph of us at our table, adding a personal touch to our visit.
As the grand finale to our meal, we followed our waiter's recommendation and savored the Tiramisu for dessert. It was, without a doubt, the finest rendition of this classic Italian dessert that has ever graced our taste buds.
In summary, our visit to Trattoria Alla Scalla was the highlight of our honeymoon. From the impeccable food to the charming staff and delightful ambiance, every element of our experience was exceptional. We departed with hearts full of joy and palates forever grateful for this culinary masterpiece in the...
Read moreWe stayed directly above the Trattoria Alla Scala in the beginning of August 2021. Every time we came down the stair set we were greeted with a friendly smile by one of the servers... On our last day in Venice, my wife and I checked out of the room early and had the rest of day to explore the city. After a few hours of wandering around, it was now around 3pm and we ended up nearby Trattoria Alla Scala and decided we would sit down and relax before catching the train. We were seated right away at a table for two, with two other larger tables available in the courtyard. This was no issue. The server came over and asked for our order, my wife (who was pregnant at the time) asked for still water and I ordered a beer. We let the server know we would most likely only be having a drink or two. As the server came back and cleared our table of wine glasses and silverware, we could clearly hear a disgruntled older man giving the waitress an earful in the doorway to the restaurant. He was obviously speaking Italian but was making remarks about how we were "at a table only drinking". The tone and level in which he was speaking was clearly evident that he did not care that we could hear or want us taking up a table to drink. If this (presumable) owner had such an issue with us taking up said table, he should have confronted us and not been passive about his thoughts. This could've allowed us to explain the situation -pregnant wife, August heat, time to kill - and figured it out from there. Very unprofessional. Server managed to keep it together... We realized we weren't welcome, drank quickly and got out of there. We were up front with our intentions from the beginning and am not sorry for any business you may have lost. By the time we left, two other tables had finished their meals and cleared room for others. No one was...
Read moreClassic Italian fare. While the food is not special or fancy, it is properly made. The pasta is handmade and the seafood is fresh. Quick and prompt. The outstanding feature of this restaurant is the service. Gracious and kind staff, almost unheard of in Italy. They start by asking you which language you prefer and the menu is translated into major languages for clients. The WiFi password is provided on the first page for your convenience. They also provided me with a bottle of water to take to my hotel.
In essence, the staff treats their guests without arrogance and you do not feel small over the smallest things. For example, I always reject the bread basket because I dislike stale low quality bread buns and bread sticks (that tastes disgusting) even if it’s already included in the coperto charge. The two consecutive restaurants prior made a face and challenged me saying… “Why do you not eat bread?!” Or “It’s free”. There is also no pressure to get a second plate or a dessert or anything that you do not want.
I enjoyed my experience because for the first time in 5 days, I did not have to explain to waitstaff why I want my meal done in a way that I want or deal with any “Italian...
