Trattoria DiGiorgio — Restaurant in Venice

The most disappointing place I visited in Venice. The behavior of one of the waiters was unacceptable and unprofessional.

My mother took a little longer to decide what to order and the waiter showed visible impatience and did not hide his annoyance. But that was nothing compared to what came next.

I asked if there was a bathroom inside and he replied that I could go into the canal. No one laughed except him. His response was rather inappropriate which created an unpleasant atmosphere.

As for the food: my pizza was average. Nothing special, neither the dough nor the toppings, with canned mushrooms on top, for around 15€ I would have expected fresh ones. The liver my mother ordered was heavily marinated in vinegar and far too sour.

What really surprised us next was the handling of the bread basket: after clearing the plates, the waiter threw the piece of bread we had touched into the canal. This did not give us a good impression of hygiene standards.

We are very understanding, especially during the busy tourist season in Venice and we were not difficult guests at all. However the overall service and attitude were not acceptable. With an automatically included service charge we simply expected more...

Staff were friendly but everything seemed to have a lot of garlic of which I am sensitive to. The focaccia was 9 euro which wasn't mentioned when asked if we wanted it. We thought it was complimentary with our 3 dinners and drinks. The menus had already been collected. The gnocchi with scallops was light and fluffy but it seemed it was just 1 scallop cut into 4 pieces. The lasagna was loaded with cheese, the starter plate of shrimp and zucchini had a nice amount of shrimp. Absolutely love this Italian restaurant! Every dish — from the appetizers to the desserts — is full of authentic Italian flavor. The ingredients are fresh, and the presentation is beautiful.
