La Mela Verde — Restaurant in Venice

We tried a few gelato places (gelaterie?) while in Venice on this trip - and having carefully researched them beforehand the standard of that meticulously curated set was all fairly high. However, for me, this was the overall winner.

Maybe some factor in that is the setting or the weather on the day we came here, but the stracciatella (surely the benchmark by which any serious gelato connoisseur compares one gelateria against another) was just that bit more transcendental here. A very light yet creamy base of an exemplary fior di latte permeated by rich seams of really good quality chocolate.

I also thought they were pretty good for allergens - we were there with our friend's daughter who has a peanut allergy - and there a chart on the wall with allergen information, plus the nice lady behind the counter even double checked the ingredients on the...

I’ve tried over 70 artisanal gelato places around Italy many of them tre coni winners and this is some of the best gelato I’ve tried & by far the best gelato in Venezia by a long way. The Venetian gelato game is not strong so if you do like excellent gelato make the little walk here away from the main area and indulge. They have a variety of interesting flavours, fabulous portions and wonderful service. Seriously pleasant experience and it is a beautiful area of Venezia with little foot traffic, great for photos and well worth the trip. I enjoyed my gelato so much from here - it restored my faith in Venetian gelato, the pistachio and arancia varieties were particularly exceptional! We asked if they had a change of 500€. They said yes. My husband has already his cone and started eating it when the girl realised she actually had heard “50” instead of “500”, so no change. No change, no card either. “What should I do with this?” - my husband asked pointing to his icecream. “Give it to me” - the girl answered in a quite unpleasant way and grabbed his cone almost with his hand.
